Penelope
Needs a Forever Home
12/21/2009

Penelope was kept as an outdoors bunny. She lived in a plastic carrier and her only run time was outside, on the dirt. The people who had her almost lost her one night, and this raised a red flag for one of our volunteers. She was bought for a small child, and was relinquished to the volunteer once the parents realized how much work bunnies really are. She came to us a bit dirty, but other than that she is a completely healthy and happy bunny. She is currently in foster and is waiting for her forever home. Holiday Events & Fundraisers
12/06/2009
We have lots going on the month of December. See what's going on now!
The Logan
Fund
12/4/2009
Logan was rescued
from a city shelter about a year ago. He had a chronic sore hock on
his back left foot that left him with permanent joint damage. This didn't
stop the little guy from enjoying his new digs at the Burrow, where
he is living till he can find a forever home. He settled in pretty quickly.
It took a few months for his sore hock to heal, but once it did he did
a dance and ran and jumped during play time and was having a super time.
A few weeks ago we noticed he seemed depressed so he went for a house
break but that really didn't help too much. After doing some testing
we have discovered that his red blood count is dangerously low, almost
to the point of needing a blood transfusion. We are waiting for more
test results in hopes of finding out why this is happening. In the meantime
we are trying to raise $1000 to help cover the cost of the tests he
has already had and to help for future tests and care he will need.
If you are able, please donate to the Logan Fund through Paypal,
at the Burrow, or by mailing a check to: The Bunny Bunch/Logan Fund,
PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708. Because of our Angel Fund and your help
many rabbits lives have been saved.

Hutch of
Rabbits in Need of Homes
11/3/2009
UPDATE:
We have found short term foster homes for some of the buns but some
rabbits still remain in the hutch on the property. Enough donations
have been received to cover their spay/neuter. Donations have also been
received to be used for these buns care while in their foster homes.
Bunny Bunch is still accepting donations for this purpose. A huge thank
you to everyone who has helped so far. Willow, one of the hutch bunnies,
is pictured at left. She is a sweet loving rabbit.
A woman who
does stray cat rescue came upon a hutch of rabbits in a horrible situation.
She contacted us because the rabbits had no water or food. Some of the
rabbits had no ears so she inquired as to how it happened. She was told
that the female has babies about every month and the adult rabbits eat
part of the babies and then the babies die. The ones that have survived
had only their ears eaten off. A cute little black bun who is about
1 month old has had his penis bitten off. They are living in filthy
conditions with poop caked in the corners and under the cage. The smell
and the flies are horrible. In spite of all this the rabbits run up
to the door for affection.
We are overloaded at the Burrow so we are unable to take in these rabbits
at this time. Is anyone interested in adopting one or two of these lovely
bunnies? We are also looking for a temporary foster home until homes
can be found.
Donations are needed for care and spay and neuter until we can find
them homes. We currently have a volunteer going to the place to give
the rabbits hay, food and water. Today when he went the rabbits had
been soaked by the sprinklers going off and into their hutch!
Please help so these rabbits can be taken out of their miserable situation.
Email Caroline@bunnybunch.org
or call my cell 909-631-9552. Donations can be made to help these rabbits
via paypal, at the Burrow, or by mailing
a check to The Bunny Bunch/Hutch Buns, PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708.
Please help - we need to get these rabbits out of there ASAP.

we can't find her a home or foster. If anyone can help her, by fostering
or sponsoring, please email Caroline

Our
Latest Rescue Snowball
9/15/2009
This
little baby bunny was bought as a gift for someone from a street vendor
in Los Angeles. He was only about twelve days old.
Baby rabbits need to feed from their mother until they are about eight
weeks old. When they are taken away from their mother at an early age
they will die even if they are nibbling on hay and pellets. Luckily
this little guy made it to us so we could bottle feed and care for him
until he is old enough to eat on his own.
If you see street vendors or swap meets selling baby rabbits please
do not buy them, it just puts money in their pockets and helps them
to continue selling more baby rabbits. If no one bought them, they wouldn't
sell them.

Update
on Buddy
8/22/2009
Buddy the old
bun that we took in took a turn for the worse, so we had to have him
put to sleep last week. His story is on our site.
He greatly improved from when we took him in. He gained weight, was
able to move around even though he has arthritis and was blind, plus
he really enjoyed his daily treat of banana. He was very old and just
started to go down hill. When it came to the point that he had to be
syringe fed, on oxygen and started to lay on his side we decided it
was time to let him go so he wouldn't suffer.
I am so glad someone found him when he was dumped and brought him to
us. He had several happy weeks, he was living with other older buns
who groomed him and layed with him, he spent a lot of time on our couch
with us being cuddled and talked to, and was loved very much. Its strange
how things work out. A day or two after he was gone an older bun with
cataracts was brought into a city shelter. He is now safe with us, until
we can find him a home.
Great New Item at Bunny

Meet
Buddy our new Angel Bunny
7/14/2009
Yesterday
a little girl was walking home from school and found a rabbit, just
sitting there in the road all alone. The little girl told her Mum so
they went back to see if the rabbit was still there. He was in the same
spot. Not knowing what to do they brought the rabbit to the Burrow.
We are guessing he is about ten years old. He is blind in both eyes,
covered in fur mites, has urine scald, probably arthritis, and a horribly
infected eye. We named him Buddy.
He is being treated for all of his illnesses. He is now living in an
exercise pen with blankets so he can be comfortable and get around.
He has a litter box full of hay, which he jumped into right away and
started nibbling. He is enjoying fresh veggies and most of all lots
of TLC.
Once
we have him all sorted out we will be looking for a home for him. We
will be posting more pics of Buddy as he gets better, and will post
when he is available to go to a new home. Because of all your support
to our angel fund, and because of our wonderful volunteers, Buddy has
a happy ending.

UPDATE-5/18/2009-I
FOUND A HOME!
This little bun was thrown out of a car by an apartment complex. Luckily the bun was not hurt. A volunteer for a kitten rescue found the bun, but are unable to keep her. If you have room in your heart and home please let us know, email Caroline or call the Burrow at 909-626-3946.
TV Needed at the Burrow
5/5/2009
We are in need of a flat screen television for our classroom at the Burrow. We plan to show educational DVD's about rabbit care. But we need your help to get a TV.
We would love to have one donated but have had no luck so far. If we can raise $800 we could purchase one and start our education plan right away. Hundreds of people visit us at the Burrow to learn about rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. We do have volunteers to teach people, plus handout care. But, if we were able to have our educational DVD's showing at all times people would learn much more.
You can make a donation towards our TV via Paypal and put TV in the Paypal comments section, or send a check to The Bunny Bunch/TV, P.O. Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708.
Every day rabbits lose their homes because people do not know the right way to care for them. Help us make a difference and show them how wonderful rabbits can be living safely indoors.

rabbit, and grew to be the same size as his brothers. Thank you to everyone
who donated to help Little Willy. Because of our supporters we have
another happy ending. Read about when we rescued little
Willy.

A CHRISTMAS BUNNY MIRACLE
3/24/09
| l-r Charm and her companion, Snowshoe |
Animals have been a major part of my life since I was five-years-old and we got our first kitten. Currently my house is home to four cats, all rescued, and two bunnies (adopted from Bunny Bunch about two years ago) and they bring joy and laughter and plenty of loving every day of the year. One night this past Christmas season I was lying in bed reading and suddenly had the strongest urge to check the Bunny Bunch website. I got out of bed and turned on the computer. There I found a pair of bunnies in need of rescuing from a horrible shelter before they were euthanized. I immediately called Bunny Bunch and was amazed when Caroline herself answered the phone around 8:00. I expressed my desire to help the bunnies in need. As it turned out, those bunnies had been rescued but Caroline and the volunteers were trying to rescue another bunny scheduled to be euthanized the next day. They needed $50. Money was tight yet I promptly took out my credit card and donated that amount. Caroline was so pleased she asked me if I wanted to name him, a white bunny with pink ears, nose, and eyes. I was delighted and chose the name Snowshoe. I went to sleep that night with joy at being able to help rescue a bunny from certain death.
The other part of the miracle arrived the next day when I received a Christmas card from my sister who lives in Florida. Tucked into the card was a Christmas check to spend on "whatever would make me happy." The check was for exactly $50! I will always be a believer in the theory that miracles often come at Christmastime. As I got into bed after I'd made my donation, I felt that I had received a precious gift -- the chance to save a bunny's life. Want to receive such a wonderful gift? Go ahead and help a bunny! Sincerely, Mari Bailey

was found wondering the streets of Los Angeles lost and alone. A very
nice lady found her and took her home which saved her life. It wouldn't
have been long before a predator, car or uncaring human would have got
to her.
The lady that found her was unable to keep her so she needed to find her a safe home or a rescue to take her. She had no luck finding a good home so she had her spayed and brought her to a Bunny Bunch foster home. Upon doing a health check our volunteer discovered that Beatrix's spay incision had become badly infected and inflamed, in fact the incision was open - the skin had healed, meaning another surgery had to be done in order for this poor bun to survive.
Beatrix was rush to emergency where the vet did surgery right away. We are happy to report that she is now recovering nicely in her foster home and as soon as she has healed and finished her meds she will be at the Burrow waiting for her forever home.
You can donate via Paypal to our Angel fund so we can continue to help rabbits like Beatrix. Or, you can mail a check to The Bunny Bunch, PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708, or stop by the Burrow, as we will have a donation jar for Beatrix there.
Because of people
like you we are able to save hundreds of rabbits who otherwise had no
one that cared about them. Thank you!!!!

The picture above shows just how small Little Willy is-the dollar bill is bigger than he is! So far he is thriving. He is still much smaller than this two brothers, but is eating and pooping like crazy! He has learnt to keep warm by snuggling in between his brothers (shown above). He wears a sock as a sweater, and has a constant source of heat from a heating disk if he chooses to use it. We have not been able to find out why he has no hair, or why he is so much smaller than his brothers. But the good thing is he is active and growing. Stay tuned for more Little Willy updates!
Temporary Care Needed
for Harvey & Penelope
2/12/2009
Two bonded bunnies need your help - Harvey and Penelope. Back last December, the bunnies were in their owner's car when it was stolen. The car & bunnies were recovered, but during the ordeal, Harvey fractured his spine (maybe when the thieves were holding him, he struggled...?). With limited funds, we worked with Harvey and Penelope's owner to get Harvey's bladder functioning again after his spinal injury and taught the owner how to bathe him. He does walk some with his hind legs and is doing great, but needs periodic butt baths. Penelope is overweight and also gets a messy butt, so she also needs periodic cleaning. In January of this year, when their owner got pneumonia and was hospitalized, she snuck out of the hospital to bring the bunnies in to Dr. Domotor's to be boarded, then she returned to the hospital.
As you can see, she really cares about her bunnies. A few weeks ago, Harvey and Penelope's owner was arrested on a minor charge. We are still waiting to find out how long she will be in jail. So the bunnies have been at the Pasadena Humane Society for the past few weeks, and we have just now gotten permission to pull the bunnies from the shelter.
Can you help temporarily? If so, please email Kim, or call the Burrow at 909-626-3946. Thanks a bunny bunch.
Little
Willy
1/30/2009
This
cute little guy came to us with his two baby brothers. As you can see
he has lost all his fur. We rescued him from a city shelter so we have
no history on him. So far he is doing well, but we need to do a full
medical work up to find out what is wrong. If you would like to help
Little Willy please send a donation towards his medical care. You
can donate now thru Paypal, or mail a
check to The Bunny Bunch, 4601-1
Brooks St, Montclair, CA 91708. Please let us know either way that your
donation is for Little Willy.
Help Baby
Snowy
1/6/2009
Baby
Snowy was found in someone's front yard with an injured back leg. Luckily
the person that found him had heard of the Bunny Bunch and brought him
to us right away. Unfortunately
we discovered that the leg was broken. We took him to our rabbit vet
who did x-rays that showed his femur was broken in eight places. The
pieces of bone were too shattered to repair so we decided it would be
best for him to have his leg amputated.
He is now recovering in our care. He is a tiny 2 pound white bun with lovely blue eyes. He loves people, loves to be held and gets around just fine. We will be getting him neutered next week, and after that he will be available for adoption.
Please let us know if you are interested in giving him a forever home by filling out an adoption form. If you can't adopt but would like to help him please donate to "The Baby Snowy Fund." His surgery was $600. You can donate now thru Paypal, or mail a check to The Bunny Bunch, 4601-1 Brooks St, Montclair, CA 91708. Please let us know either way that your donation is for the Baby Snowy Fund.
Happy New Year everyone! Because of your support Baby Snowy will have a happy ending.
We Have A Winner!

Congratulations to Tina Montes! She is the proud winner of our Bunny Quilt Raffle! Thanks to all of you who participated.
Happy Holidays
from the Bunny Bunch
12/24/2008

We are happy to report that the rabbits we posted on the news all got rescued from the shelters and are safe and sound at the Burrow. In fact, we got enough donations to get a few more out as well. We also received enough donations to get all the rabbits spayed or neutered that were rescued from the Santa Ana Canyon. They will be available for adoption at the Burrow in January. They are all super friendly, and as sweet as can be. On top of all that, we received enough donations for all the rabbits at the Burrow to have a cozy bed for winter. Thank you everyone for caring so much and making a difference.
The Burrow is closed for the holidays, reopening on Friday, January 2nd at noon. We will still ship out orders from the Boutique. If you need to pick up supplies please call the order line (909) 548-0034 and we will arrange to meet you at the Burrow, when we are caring for the buns.
URGENT! Eight Young Rabbits
Found in Santa Ana Canyon
12/10/2008
![]() |
![]() |
A few days ago, we received a call from a person who had been jogging in the Santa Ana Canyon. She saw nine young rabbits on a hillside. They were domestic rabbits who had been left to fend for themselves by an uncaring human. Luckily the jogger was a person with a good heart. She was able to rescue seven of these lovely little rabbits and will be bringing them to the Burrow so we can asses them, have them spayed or neutered and find them good homes. Unfortunately, one rabbit had been killed when she returned to rescue them. We currently don't have any low cost spay/neuter, so we will need to raise about $700 just to get these buns fixed. Then, of course, we will be in search for homes for them. Can you help us help these little darlings? Donate now to help the Santa Ana Canyon babies. Thanks a Bunny Bunch!

Rabbit Crisis in Southern
California
7/18/2008
A few years ago, rabbits became the third most popular house pet. Fortunately, more people know that rabbits should live in the house and not outside in a hutch.
There is easily accessible, valuable information about proper rabbit care available on the Internet, as well as at rescue events and veterinary offices. Therefore, many more rabbits have been provided with a safe, indoor environment, the right diet, a litter box. They are spayed or neutered as well as taken to an exotic vet who is rabbit knowledgeable.
Unfortunately, more and more rabbits are being turned into city and county shelters, dumped in the streets, schools and parks. Now they have become the third most dumped animal.
Here at the Bunny Bunch we receive numerous calls and emails daily from people who have found a rabbit, who no longer want their rabbit, as well as requests from city and county shelters asking us to take rabbits so they don't have to kill them. The shelters are always overloaded with rabbits no one wants anymore.
The most common reasons people decide to give up their rabbits are that they are moving, or, that the child they got the rabbit for has lost interest, doesn't take care of it anymore, or has moved out.
Rabbits
move fine from city to city, even across the county. People have even
moved overseas with their rabbits. Parents need to be responsible and
take over the care when the child moves out.
Getting a rabbit or any pet for a child is a huge mistake in the first place. When your child loses interest, who will take care of the animal? When you want to get rid of the "pet', what is that teaching your child; that animals are "throw away" pets or the life is expendable? Having a rabbit as part of the family can be a rewarding way for a child to grow up, if the children are well behaved and supervised at all times. Children should never be allowed to handle small, fragile animals like rabbits without constant adult supervision. They should also not be tasked with the feeding, cleaning and care of an animal when they can not even fully take care of themselves. This does not teach them responsibility like many parents think it will. It just teaches them what it is like to see a poor, defenseless animal suffer, or get injured and die. Do you really want your children the witness this?
Before
you get a rabbit, or any other kind of animal, please take the time
to learn about their care and their life span. A rabbit can live over
twelve years, a guinea pig can live eight years or more, and a chinchilla
can live sixteen plus years. Only adopt if you can make a commitment
to care for the animal for the rest of its life.
"FUR IS DEAD"-PETA
and The Bunny Bunch
7/10/2008
Who
does People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) call when they
need bunnies for an anti-fur campaign? Ther Bunny Bunch of course!
The celebrities were all instructed in proper bunny handling to ensure the buns' safety, and the little buns relaxed between between shots in a special green room with, appropriately, greens, and hay-filled litter boxes. The celebrities were all curious to hear stories about their co-stars, and to learn about spay/neutering, potty training and indoor living.
The photogenic little buns were scared in the beginning because of the flashing lights, but they were soon cruising around the couch and the room, checking out their new playground. Plus, the celebs gave them hours worth of headrubs and kisses, which ake any bunny relax.
After their adventure ended, the fuzzy superstars went back to their foster home to relax and see their other siblings. Their next project, they hope, will be moving into loving forever homes!

IT'S
HOT OUT THERE!
6/23/2008
In Southern California it has been over 100 degrees for days now. Rabbits cannot survive the heat outside, or inside without air-conditioning. Or, without lots of help from you to stay cool.
If your rabbits live indoors make sure you have your air running, even when you are not home. Also, be prepared in case you lose power.
If your rabbits live outdoors BRING THEM INSIDE. Even if you set them up in a small bathroom, crate or large carrier during the hot parts of the day, its better than being outside (with air-conditioning inside, of course).
Rabbits cannot cool themselves by sweating like people do, and they can't pant like dogs to cool themselves down. Imagine not being able to sweat or pant, and having a fur coat on in this hot weather. The outcome is death. Here are some tips to keep rabbits cool without air-conditioning:
If your rabbits are outside they must be 100% in the shade. Add a misting system so the mist can cool part of their living area during the day. If hay or pellets get wet make sure you replace them as they will mold. Your rabbit does need to have a dry area so make sure the misters are only on part of his living quarters.
People often say that wild rabbits survive outside so why can't domestic rabbits. Wild rabbits dig burrows where they spend the hot part of the day in the cool underground soil. If your rabbit is outside in a hutch or cage they are not able to get away from the heat and are often found dead due to heat stroke, which is a horribly painful way to die. Fill several two liter soda bottles with water and freeze. Keep one or two in your rabbits living area throughout the day, and at night if it is hot. Be sure to replace them when the ice has melted. Use a couple of marble tiles for your rabbits to lay on. They stay cool compared to other materials.
Your rabbits drinking water will become very warm. Get large crocks for water and fill with ice cubes and water, adding more ice cubes as often as you can throughout the day. Don't forget in hot weather rabbits will drink more water, even if they are indoors.
A fan alone will not cool a rabbit as they don't sweat. But it can help move the air around. If you drape a wet towel over your rabbits living area and have a fan blowing on it that will help cool the air. Rabbits cool themselves through their ears, so wetting their ears with cool water can help too.
Heat Stroke
If your rabbit starts panting or is wet around the mouth or nose area, he or she could have heat stroke. If this happens cool you rabbit down straight away by cooling the ears with cool water. Lay your rabbits on a towel that has been soaked in cool water. You must take your rabbit to a rabbit knowledgeable vet right away.
Shelter Rabbits Need Help Too!
There are many rabbits in city and county shelters that are housed outside. You can help by becoming a volunteer with Bunny Bunch. We send volunteers to shelters to take ice water bottles, set up cooling systems and keep the rabbits as cool as we can. You can also help by fostering a rabbit in your home.
Please keep your rabbits alive by keeping them cool! For more information please contact caroline@bunnybunch.org.
These
Buns Need Homes Quickly!
6/12/2008
Pongo
and Natasha are a couple of crazy lops! They are absolutely GORGEOUS
(much more so than this photo shows) and provide hours of entertainment
with their silly antics. They love to explore and play with their toys
and boxes. Natasha is a 3-year old black lop with very shiny, lovely
fur. Pongo is a 2-year old Harlequin-Lop mix in beautiful shades of
silver. Natasha has a spine injury that is barely perceptible from the
outside, but Xrays showed injury, especially around the neck plus osteoporosis
throughout the spine. She is on daily pain medication which she has
responded really well to. Based on her activity level and appetite,
she doesn't appear to be in any pain at all. (She frequently jumps up
on top of the box in her ex-pen, and even recently jumped out of her
ex-pen!) Pongo is very intelligent and independent and can occasionally
be a little aggressive towards Natasha, usually around mealtime. This
behavior has subsided greatly lately, and they are both making huge
improvements in their attitudes. Since Pongo is a bit possessive of
Natasha, it would be best if this pair were housed away from other rabbits.
This spirited pair are a bit messy when it comes to their litterbox
habits, too, probably in part due to Natasha's spine injury and also
due to being territorial around the other rabbits in their current home.
They will need an extra large enclosure, and some extra TLC will go
a long way with this pair. If you meet them and fall in love, you will
not even mind the little extra work required to take care of them!
Ayashe
is a pretty Rex girl. She is adorable and loves to play with her toys.
Ayashe is overweight, so she needs a lot of space to exercise and a
strict diet of mostly hay. Additionally, she is very shy and needs someone
who can be patient as she learns to trust humans. At this time, an experienced
bunny home without children would be best for Ayashe, because she has
bitten in the past when frightened. However, she has made a lot of progress
in this area since being removed from the shelter, and we are sure she
will continue to come out of her shell and be a very sweet bunny over
time. We estimate her age to be around 3 years old.
If you are interested in these buns, please click here to fill out an adoption form, or email Caroline.
Volunteers
needed!
5/18/2008
Our
new location "The Burrow" is a great success. We have had
lots of adoptions for rabbits, chinchillas and guinea pigs. We have
also held low cost spay/neuter clinics for the public. Our store "Bunny
Bunch Boutique" has had lots of sales of our never ending supplies
of toys, hay, chews, goodies and more.
If you have ever thought about helping animals, the Burrow is a great
place to do it. On a daily basis we clean litter boxes, give out hay,
pellets and veggies, clean food and water bowls, deep clean living quarters,
groom lots of rabbits, chins and piggies. All our animals need one on
one time with volunteers to get lots of love and attention.
We also need help with phone calls, emails, data entry, taking pictures
of the animals, filing, general cleaning, fundraisring, events, mailing
and more! The list just goes on.
By volunteering here you will meet lots of lovely animals, lots of animal
lovers, and will have a sense of what it feels like to truly make a
difference. For more information you can email me at caroline@bunnybunch.org,
call the Burrow 909 626-3946, or just stop by during the hours we are
open. We hope to see you soon.
Joey the Angel
Bunny
4/17/2008
Joey
was taken to a city shelter by his humans, no longer wanted. As you
can see from his picture on the right he had a horrible jaw abscess
that had ruptured and scabbed over without treatment. Poor boy, whoever
had him didn't get vet care so his abscess turned into a chronic infection.
Luckily when he arrived at the city shelter our Bunny Bunch volunteer
Linda was there and rushed him over to the Burrow, the Bunny Bunch Headquarters,
for proper care. The infection was so bad the smell was unbearable,
she had to drive with the windows down. Joey was quickly put on pain
meds and scheduled for surgery the next day.
The abscess was so big there was not enough skin on the side of his
face to close up the opening after surgery, so the side of his face
was left open to heal. He needed a lot of pain medication, a couple
of different antibiotics, fluids, GI support and syringe feeding for
the weeks following the surgery. It took a quite awhile but little by
little Joey was getting better. The surgery was a success and his cheek
completely healed and even grew back fur. With all the TLC he got from
the volunteers he pulled though with flying colors. Currently he is
getting molar trims as his teeth have overgrown, but by keeping up regular
trimmings we are hoping his teeth will be corrected.
Now
you would never know Joey went through so much. He is a happy healthy
rabbit!
This story has a happy ending, because our Angel Fund was able to help
a rabbit in need, who otherwise would have been put to sleep. To donate
to our Angel Fund you can click here
or mail a check to: The Bunny Bunch Angel Fund, PO Box 2583, Chino,
CA 91708. You all make this possible.
Can You
Help These Rabbits?
UPDATE 3/12/2008
Good News!
All of the four rabbits below are going into homes or foster homes.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped us with this!
These rabbits
are at a shelter and have limited time left. Please let us know if you
are interested in adopting. The gray lop and the white rabbits are females.
The dutch with blue eyes and the white (dirty looking) rabbits are males.
We will get the rabbits spayed and neutered, plus clean up the poor
dirty bunny. If you are interested please email caroline@bunnybunch.org
or call the Burrow at (909) 626-3946 ASAP!
Adopt
A Chocolate Bunny
2/21/2008
For
a donation of $8.00 ($10 if you would like it mailed to you) you will
receive a solid chocolate Easter Bunny made with premium European chocolate,
in a 8"x 4" keepsake tin (shown at left). On the back of the
tin we have put a message about adopting a chocolate bunny for Easter
instead of a real one. There are three chocolate bunny flavors: milk
chocolate, dark chocolate or milk chocolate with cashew truffle. They
are all delicious! Last year we sold out.
If you would like to order online, please click here.
Or, you can pick up your chocolate Easter Bunnies at the Burrow. Click
here for address and hours. All proceeds
from the chocolate bunnies help us to continue to rescue rabbits and
educate people about rabbit care.
Please join us with our Easter awareness program "Who
Killed the Easter Bunny". You can help in many ways. You can
put our flyer up anywhere you can to help educate people about rabbits.
Or, send people to us for rabbit care information so we can help them
understand all about rabbits and the proper care.
Every
year thousands of rabbits are bred to be sold at Easter time. Unfortunately
many of them die before their first birthday. Why? Because they
are treated like a toy and bought for children, or for adults who have
not done any research in properly caring for a rabbit. They are bought
on a whim. Please help us spread the word that chocolate rabbits
are for Easter. Real rabbits are for life.
Please email Caroline
if you would like to help sell chocolate bunnies, or have any questions.
The Burrow is Now Open!

Our adoption

Wednesday - 2pm to 8pm
Thursday - Noon to 6pm
Friday - Noon to 6pm
Saturday - 11am to 4:30 pm
Sunday - Noon to 4pm
Closed Mon & Tue
Bring your rabbit, chin or piggies in for a free nail trim, take home our free care handouts, or just come in to visit. Bunny Bunch Boutique has a full store for all of your shopping needs, full of toys, chews, living quarter items, hay, pellets, treats, gifts and much more. We are now featuring our new Bunny Playground.
This
is Lady. She was one of six baby rabbits that were left at the door
of a city shelter in a box at only a couple of days old without their
mother. Luckily the shelter called us right away to see if we could
take the babies in and bottle feed them. We did, the babies are now
adults.
We have lots of successful programs set up like this, but we want more
We have been approved to lease a building in the city of Montclair, California. This will be our "official" Bunny Bunch Headquarters.
We are planning on having rabbits, chinchillas and guinea pigs for adoption. We will be holding education classes and fundraisers, plus will have our Bunny Bunch Boutique store there for all your rabbit needs.
This
has always been our dream, and to make it come true we need to raise
$5,000 to get started. We need to paint, put in new flooring, get blinds,
three air-conditioning units, and a veggie cooler, plus set- ups for
our foster rabbits, chins and piggies. We need a security system, plus
lots of storage
for all our supplies.
As you may remember, earlier this year we rescued over 500 rabbits from a park in Garden Grove. We still have lots of these rabbits in foster homes, plus the rabbits that we rescue from shelters. We are sure by having our own center that we will expand our rescue, adoption and education efforts.
Please help us make this happen, by donating, volunteering and telling people about Bunny Bunch and what we do. If you would like to make a donation to our building fund, please click here. Make sure you specify your donation is for our Bunny Bunch Headquarters fund.
Please

Urgent
Situation at City Shelter
9/1/2007
An LA area
shelter has 48 rabbits that they can no longer keep, they had planned
to euthanize them this week. Someone is willing to help these rabbits
financially if we can find somewhere for them to go; the shelter is
agreeing to give us this chance. All our foster homes are full, so we
need to find somewhere else for them to go.
We have a volunteer who is going to pay for all the spay/neuters, any
medical care (they all seem in good health), will pay to transport them
and will pay for some care for hay, pellets etc. If needed, there are
new set ups of cages at the shelter that can go with them. The volunteer
had them made by CW Cages; they are sets of cages on wheels, all new.
The cages are too small for them to live in for a long time, but could
be used to save their lives till homes can be found. If you can help,
please call 909-591-7200, or email Caroline
or Kim.

Two Adorable
Bunnies Who Need a Home Soon...
8/19/2007
Stevie
and Creamsicle (VE) are two wonderful little guys who are losing their
foster home on August 27th. They urgently need a foster or forever home
asap.
These two boys were rescued from the Garden Grove water reservoir area along with around 500 other bunnies. They were tiny babies back then and one had the sniffles, but their foster mom took such good care of them and nursed them back to health. Once they were neutered they moved to a new foster home, where they've been happy but they need more than that. They really need a bunny proofed room or home where they can run around a lot. An x-pen is not sufficient for these young lads.
Stevie is a chill Hotot mix bunny who loves to stretch out and relax. Everyday is a lazy Stevie day. He doesn't mind being held, unlike his best pal, Creamsicle, a little orange and white Dutch who is slowly learning that he's now safe, unlike the old days back in the scary Great Outdoors. Creamsicle turns to Stevie for protection. They're both very sweet boys and are glad to have each other. Please email bunnystuff@hotmail.com for more information about these little guys.

Sandy was left at a shelter. She is already spayed and desperate
to get a home as a house rabbit. If you are interested in adopting her
please let us know ASAP as we don't have room in our foster program
to take her in. She is a already spayed beautiful outgoing Agouti female
half lop (one ear up, one ear down). Very friendly and curious. Please

Petsmart Selling
Baby Rabbits in 40 of Their Stores
7/25/2007
Petsmart has decided to sell baby rabbits in 40 of their stores as a "test". They have ordered up specially bred dwarf rabbits which they intend to spay or neuter at a very young age.
The Bunny Bunch and rabbit rescues nationwide are horrified by this decision. Petsmart, through it's charity Petsmart Charities, has been a friend of rescue for many years. Rescue and adoption groups have supported Petsmart's decision to not sell puppies, kittens and rabbits, which makes this decision to sell baby rabbits such a huge betrayal.
We are concerned for many reasons including these: READ MORE....

Many
PetsMarts Across the U.S. Will Soon Begin to Sell Domestic Rabbits
7/13/07
Below is their claim
to be responsible partners with Animal Welfare Agencies with regards to
cat and dog adoptions. As
rabbits are the third most popular pet, and thus the third most likely
to be abandoned and euthanized at animal shelters, shouldn't they be afforded
the same consideration?
PetsMarts Claim:
(Lives saved: 3,000,000 as of June 23, 2007) Each year between 6 and
8 million pets enter shelters in the United
States. Of those homeless pets, 3 to 4 million lose their lives simply
because they do not have homes. Because of the in-store adoption program
our PetSmart stores have assisted our Animal Welfare Agencies in placing
3 million pets into loving homes.
Since its inception
in 1987, PetSmart has chosen not to sell cats or dogs in stores, but rather
to encourage pet adoptions. What's more, to help address pet overpopulation,
PetSmart teams up with more than 3,400 local animal welfare
organizations throughout North America and donates space in store for
the PetSmart Charities' Adoption Centers, helping to place homeless pets
in loving homes.
By selling rabbits, PetsMart is attempting to boost the sales of rabbit related merchandise, and is not considering the welfare of the rabbits it soon will be exploiting.
Please voice your opinion to PetsMart in a letter, email, telephone call or in person at your local store! Tell them that you will not shop at PetsMart until they stop selling rabbits. Tell them how irresponsible PetsMart is, by including the following concerns:
-they
are adding to the problem of over-population, while unwanted
shelter rabbits are already dying.
-they
are increasing the likelihood that rabbits will be abandoned
outdoors where they cannot fend for themselves.
-they
are increasing the likelihood that rabbits will be turned in
to "kill" shelters.
-they
are not education those who purchase rabbits on good rabbit
care, rabbit health and rabbit behavior
-for
every rabbit sold, one in a shelter might die, and one in a
rescue will not get adopted, thus leaving rescues unable to pull
adoptable rabbits from "kill" shelters.

Garden Grove Rescue Update
7/5/07
There
are only two (hard to catch) rabbits left at the park in Garden Grove,
we hope to catch them in the next couple of days. We
were able to save all the rabbits that were dumped at this location.
As you know from our previous updates, the trapping company did come in to the park and trap a lot of rabbits. We took all the rabbits we have room for from the trapping company, but at that time did not have enough room for all of them, so some had to go to the Orange County shelter. But, we paid the shelter for the rabbits as soon as they got there. That bought us some time to find more foster homes, plus the shelter would not be able euthanized the rabbits as now they belonged to us. It would ensure that they would be spayed or neutered at the shelter to prevent further litters from being born. We are picking up the last of the rabbits from the OC shelter this week.
We started this rescue not knowing how we were going to fund this rescue, where we were going to foster all these rabbits, and didn't even know if we would be allowed enough time to complete this rescue. Thanks to the wonderfully dedicated volunteers, those who donated money to help us with spay/neuter and medical costs, and to the media who publicized our needs. Because of all of you we were 100% successful.
Two new rabbits did get dumped there a couple of weeks ago, we were able to scoop them right up. We got them fixed and they are in a foster home waiting for a forever home. We have hundreds of rabbits from this rescue that still need homes, so now we will be working hard to seek out more rabbit lovers who can commit to giving these rabbits a lovely forever home.
We are waiting for the county to come through with what they promised us; replacing gates and fencing to help prevent more animals from being dumped at the park, as well as putting up signs about not dumping animals. Hopefully this will happen in the next week or two. After all our hard work, we need them to take care of the problem that started all this in the first place.
This rescue saved the lives of over 500 rabbits, plus some guinea pigs and many birds. It didn't cost the City or County any money at all. We are proud of this accomplishment, and are very thankful for all your support.
Desiree Needs
Your Help!
6/26/07
Sweet
Desiree was a neglected backyard hutch bunny and abandoned by her
former guardians to fend for herself when they moved out of their home.
We received a call from the Real Estate Agent of the new homeowners that
a bunny was left abandonded in the backyard. Val left immediately to go
and get her (thank you, Val). Desiree's eyes were weepy and her teeth
not so good either. Desiree needs to have head x-rays taken and possible
teeth surgery but head x-rays will tell us more. We need to raise some
money to have this done as the 500+ Garden Grove rescue has depleted our
medical funds. You
can click here to donate through Paypal or
mail a check to: The Bunny Bunch/Desiree, PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708.
Can you help us help dear little Desiree? Right now she wont eat any hay (which is critical to a buns GI tract and hay also keeps the teeth healthy and filed down), we have to soften her pellets in order for her to eat and she also isnt eating vegetables (another important part of a buns diet) so teeth are definitely suspect.
Thanks a Bunny Bunch. With your help Desiree may eventually find her forever home.
Garden Grove Rabbit Rescue Update
5/25/2007
The good
news is that we have been able to rescue 450 rabbits from the park in
Garden Grove so far. On May 19 we held three adoption events in different
cities and were able to place over 40 rabbits. The following day we did
a round up of 50 rabbits from the park.
On Monday the trapping company came in and started trapping rabbits. They
only caught a few in the traps. It seems that they do care about not hurting
the rabbits, so they fenced off a large area where the rabbits could go
in through a tunnel, but could not go back out. The next day there were
46 rabbits in it. We were able to take the rabbits and put them into foster
homes.
After taking in these 96 rabbits we were totally full, which meant that
rabbits being caught in the following days by the trapping company would
be taken to the Orange County shelter. We are trying to work with the
County, the trapping company and Orange County shelter in hopes of saving
the rest of the rabbits.
Currently there are 90 rabbits at the OC shelter brought in by the trapping
company, and it looks like we have foster and permanent homes for all
of them.
Of course, more rabbits will be going to the OC shelter next week once
the trappers catch them. So, we still need your help to find homes. Plus,
we still need donations to help these rabbits as the average cost to get
one of these rabbits fixed has been about $70.
Soon lots of pics of these buns will be under adopt
a rabbit on our website. All of these rabbits deserve to
be in homes, so please fill out our adoption
contract if you can help us by giving a rabbit or two a
home.
Thank you to everyone who has made this happen. As the end comes closer
we are hoping it will be a happy ending. If you have any questions or
for more information, please call us at 909-591-7200. Or email
Caroline.
Last Chance
to Help the Garden Grove Rabbits
5/9/2007
![]() Young rabbits rescued from the park. |
Right - Kanga was found with her right front leg shattered and a massive abscess on her left front leg. Her leg was amputated and the abscess removed the day after we rescued her. The surgery went too long for it to be safe to spay her too. She had six babies three days later. We helped feeding the babies by bottle feeding seeing that she had been through so much. Mother and babies are all doing very well. | ![]() |
We have been able to rescue over 300 of the domestic rabbits from the park in Garden Grove, California where they were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. But now we only have until May 20th to rescue the remaining 200 adults, plus babies. On May 21st a trapping company is being hired.
We have been busy rescuing rabbits from the park, sexing, separating, getting them spayed or neutered and into homes or foster homes. But, we have no room left for the rest of the abandoned rabbits. Our foster homes are full so we need your help.
All these rabbits deserve forever homes. We have lots of lovely rabbits - singles, pairs, trios and groups already spayed and neutered just waiting for homes. To see the full story click here. You can also see video clips of the rabbits and volunteers as seen on Fox, ABC and CBS national news.
We have had wonderful support from animal lovers all over the country, we have found lots of lovely homes and have received donations to help with the spay, neuter and medical costs. BUT, we need more in order to make this a 100% successful rescue.
Unfortunately vandals get into this fenced off park at night time. We have found rabbits taped up in boxes, sling shots on the ground and so far have had five rabbits with broken legs and other injuries. So we need funding not just for spay/neuter and care, but for medical costs too. We have volunteers patrolling the park everyday and are hoping to get help from the police department at night time.
We are holding three big adoption events on Saturday, May 19th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will have lots of rabbits there for you to meet. If you are interested in adopting please fill out our adoption application by clicking here. We do prefer indoor homes as they are much safer, but we are accepting some safe outdoor homes too. While our standard adoption fee is $85, we are just asking for a donation of any amount if you can afford to give one, so that we can carry on the work we are doing for the rabbits.
On May 19th our events are being held at:
Petco 3820 Grand Ave, Chino Hills, CA 91710
Petsmart 7600 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach, CA 82647
Centinela Feed 1448 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401
For more information please call our hotline at (909) 591-7200, or email Caroline.
Time is running out, we have less than two weeks to find homes for all these rabbits and save them from a terrible ending!
Angel
Bunnies Sunny & Betsey
4/11/2007
We
are happy to report that Sunny has totally recovered after having
his leg amputated. You may have read his story a few months ago on our
news. Sunny was found in the street left to fend for himself. A caring
person came along, scooped him up and took him home.
One of Sunny's back legs stuck straight out making him unable to hop.
Luckily Sunny was brought to us to care for. Thanks to our supporters
we raised enough money to have his surgery done. As you can see, Sunny
is a happy rabbit, now able to run, hop and binky. Sunny has been neutered
and is now looking for a home of his own. He is a very sweet, kind loving
rabbit. If you are interested in adopting Sunny, please call us at 909-591-7200
or email Caroline.
Just
as Sunny was recovering from his surgery from having his leg amputated,
we came across another rabbit needing the same surgery. Betsy was
one of the rabbits from the Garden Grove rescue. She was found by one
of our volunteers at the park where we are rescuing the rabbits.
Upon X-ray we found that her leg has been shattered. We think it was from
someone trying to trap the rabbits. In fact this was the third rabbit
with a leg injury that we had found within two weeks. She too had her
leg amputated and has recovered nicely from her surgery. She is being
spayed next week, and two weeks after that we will be looking for a home
for her. She is a sweet, shyish little girl. Please email Caroline
if you are interested in Betsey, or call 909-591-7200.
Garden
Grove 500 Rabbit Rescue Update
4/4/2007
We
are up to our ears in rabbits, phone calls and emails. All of which is
super, thanks to all the help the media, rescue organizations and the
public is giving us.
The good news is that because we have had such a good response from people
wanting to adopt, we have been able to rescue more rabbits and are getting
them fixed and ready for transport to their new homes. The county has
agreed not to have a trapping company come in to trap the rabbits as long
as Bunny Bunch can get all the rabbits out in a timely manner.
If you have emailed us and offered to help by giving a rabbit a home,
by donating or helping us transport, we will be in touch with you very
soon. Because of the huge response to this effort, it is taking us awhile
to coordinate everything. We are solely run by volunteers. We really need
your help so please be patient and if you don't happen to hear from us
within the week, please contact us again. Make sure you give us the city
you live in and your phone number.
We
still don't have homes for even close to all the rabbits, so we are still
in search for more homes and rescues to help us. We also need vets
to help us with spay and neuter. We need to be able to do five to
ten rabbits at a time if possible. Even though one or two at a time will
help us too. Of course, we always need funding so we can continue our
efforts to get every single rabbit spayed or neutered and into a home,
from shelters and when rabbits get dumped from unwanted homes.
Thank you everyone for your support, these rabbits have no where to turn
and no one to help them so please be a part of making a difference. We
will be at America's Family Pet Expo in Costa Mesa on April 13th, 14th
and 15th. Please come and visit us and the rabbits there.

URGENT!!!!
3/23/2007
Urgent help needed for 300 to 500 bunnies in southern California. Companion bunnies, not wild bunnies, abandoned in a park are being killed by locals and will be destroyed by overwhelmed animal shelter (they are trying to help, but the number of rabbits is so high). Local rabbit rescue groups do not have enough permanent or foster space and need help immediately to save these bunnies. Anyone able to adopt rabbits to live indoors (think of them as being like cats that hop; litter trainable and want to live inside with the family), or even temporarily outdoors please contact us at 909-591-7200 or email caroline@bunnybunch.org to help. The rabbits are located in Orange County but we will find a way to transport them to anywhere in Southern California, and even other rescues across the United States. PLEASE contact us straight away.
Buster
Needs a Home!
3/8/2007
Buster was owner-surrendered after four years of being a classroom bunny. Apparently, the teacher wanted to teach the kids a lesson because they weren't taking care of him so she took Buster to the shelter. (Sadly, the lesson they learned that day was that animals are disposable.) Buster is a very social, friendly, neutered English Spot cross bun. He weighs about seven pounds but he tolerates being picked up and being held like a big baby. He's such a great boy - one who really deserves better than an outdoor cage at a shelter. He's been at the pound for a year (!) and that's only because he's such a sweet, mellow guy. Let's get him out and into a foster or forever home where he can finally be a proper house rabbit! Please email Caroline@bunnybunch.org if you are interested in adopting Buster, or call 909-591-7200.
Sunny, our new Angel Bunny
3/6/07
Sunny
is a very lucky bunny. He was found in the street by a very kind person
who scooped him up and took him home. Not knowing rabbits, the person
called us to say she had found a rabbit alone in the street. As you
can see Sunny's leg goes underneath him and out to the side, so he is
not able to hop or run. The chances of Sunny surviving in the street
were very small, in fact, next to none.
A couple of Bunny Bunch volunteers from Bunny Bunch LA drove Sunny out
to Bunny Bunch HQ in Chino, so we could assess him and get him the necessary
care. We had X-rays done to see what the problem was with Sunny's leg
and curved spine. From what we can tell it looks like an old injury
that healed along time ago. Sunny can still get around with his leg
like this, he can actually scoot all over the place. But, we decided
that by removing the bad leg, he would be able to get around better
and may be even hop one day.
Of course we need to raise the money to have this done, our vet is giving
us a nice discount but we still need to raise $400.00. If you would
like to donate to help Sunny the Angel Bunny you can click here
to donate through paypal or mail a check to: The Bunny Bunch/Sunny Fund,
PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708. Your donation is tax deductible and will
help a bunny in need.
Updated pictures of Sunny will be on the news after his surgery.

Pond
Rescue Help Urgently Needed!
2/19/07
There is a situation in Garden Grove, California that needs urgent attention. A drainage basin that is used to collect excess water runoff during the rainy season is being used regularly as a dumping ground for unwanted domestic rabbits. We estimate at this time there are between 300-500 domestic rabbits there. The area is surrounded by a sports field, shopping center and some residential homes. The rabbits frequently run into the streets surrounding the basin and are hit by oncoming cars. They are also frequently mistreated or tormented by people in the area, and found injured or dead. Not only is this traumatic for the rabbits, but also for the people in the area that do love and respect animals.
Several well meaning local people have been feeding these rabbits for a few years. As you can imagine, due to the breeding behavior of rabbits, it is well out of control. The Bunny Bunch has been asked to step in and help. In order to make this a successful rescue and keep ahead of the rapidly increasing rabbit population, we will need to be able to catch and house a large number of rabbits at a time.
Our plan is to be able to catch approximately 100 rabbits at a time, spay/neuter them, and find them permanent homes in groups. To be able to carry out this plan, we are going to need the following resources donated:
Four Rabbits
at High Risk!
2/16/2007
These
four rabbits are at a high kill shelter in the Inland Empire area, and
are in great danger of being killed within the next week or two. The
shelter is now almost full so time is of the essence to save these rabbits
lives. So far we have been able to get most of the rabbits out of this
shelter, but our foster homes are currently full so we need your help.
Please email Caroline@bunnybunch.org
if you are interested in adopting any of them, or call 909-591-7200.

Does
Your Bunny Have Honey?
1/27/07
If
not, Valentines day is right around the corner! What a lovely gift it
would be to save a bunny and get your bunny a friend. Rabbits should
never live alone, they should be bonded to at least one other rabbit.
The rescues and shelters are brimming with lovely rabbits just waiting
for a home. So, now is the time to start the search for a honey for
your bunny.
Of course it is important that your rabbit is already spayed or neutered,
and that the new bunny is too. Then you need to be patient during the
bonding time for the rabbits to get to know each other so they can live
together.
We hold bunny dating every Saturday at the locations listed on our website
under events. Call us at 909-591-7200
or email us if you
would like to set up a date and see your rabbit fall in love.
Please Help us Fulfill
our Bunny Bunch Wish List
1/11/2007
Large black
trash bags
Large bottles of white vinegar
Copy paper
Postage
Fresh Veggies
Exercise Pens
With
over two hundred rabbits in foster homes, we have the never ending task
of emptying and cleaning litter boxes every day. The large black trash
bags work best for emptying the boxes into, and white vinegar works
wonders for cleaning the litter boxes. We go through no end of paper
towels during our clean up days too.
All our foster rabbits and guinea pigs get fresh veggies at least once
a day. Many of our foster homes go to the veggie store every other day
to pick up a cartful of veggies. Even though we shop where the prices
are the cheapest, this is still a huge expense for us. We do get some
veggies donated but not enough. So if anyone can get any donated from
their local super market, or would like to donate some, please bring
them to us at the Petco in Chino Hills on Saturdays from noon to 4 pm
during our adoption event.
We mail out rabbit care info on a daily basis, which of course takes
a never ending supply of paper and postage. So we are always in need
of copy paper and stamps too. For more information on other ways you
can help, please email Caroline, or call 909-548-0034. You may donate
via Paypal by clicking here, or
by mailing a check to: The Bunny Bunch, PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708.
Please specify where you would like your donation to go to. Thanks a
Bunny Bunch!
Orange
County Rescue Update
12/7/2006
Last
week the first of sixty rabbits flew Continental from Orange County Airport,
California, to their new home in Ohio. They were packed into carriers
within a carrier, with lots of hay and veggies to get them through the
day. Everything went very smoothly, we are happy to report the rabbits
are now hopping around and enjoying their new home.
This is just the first step in our rescue to find homes for all these
abandoned rabbits. We were estimating 300 rabbits, but now believe there
are more. Of course this is a race against time, as they are continually
breeding and more rabbits are being dumped.
We have raised over $4,000 towards the spay and neuter and do have some
vets on board to help us, but we still need to raise a lot more funds
What
we really need right now are volunteers to help house the rabbits while
they are being spayed and neutered, as well as help with transporting
back and forth to the vets offices in Garden Grove and Chino. The biggest
problem we face is finding homes for every one of them.
These rabbits are very sweet and will make great house rabbits. Many of
them were dumped at the park after living in a home. Some are a little
scared, but so far from the rabbits we have rescued we have not found
one that would not make a good companion as a house rabbit, given a little
time and patience.
We are also looking for places who can take groups of rabbits that can
live safely in outdoor, weather and predator proof habitats. PLEASE keep
us in mind if you can help in any way. Along with this big rescue we still

Another 300 Rescue
11/9/2006
Once again we find ourselves with an urgent situation of rescuing a large group of abandoned rabbits from a park in Southern California.
We have been told that one year ago there were 30 rabbits in this park. These rabbits were dumped by people who no longer wanted them. One by one they have been thrown over the fence into the park to fend for themselves. The park is somewhat protected by trees, a fence and lots of places for burrows to be dug, so the rabbits set up colonies and of course started breeding.
Now, a year later we are guessing that there are 300 or more rabbits residing there - many new litters are being born every day.
So we are now in the planning, catching and fundraising stage of this rescue. We are applying for grants and seeking donations to raise $20,000.00 to help us with the spay and neuter of these rabbits. We are also looking for donated or low cost spay and neuters in Southern California to help us with this huge undertaking.
It is hard for us to tell how many total rabbits there are, or will be by the time we have finished catching them all. Not counting the babies underground and new litters being born we are estimating 300 adult rabbits. So for spay and neuter alone we are talking over $15,000.00 for the rabbits we see there now.
We do have a rabbit sanctuary already lined up to take (hopefully) 60 rabbits. We have to get them all fixed first, but have already found help transporting them to their new home in Ohio.
But, after that we will need to find other safe havens for the rest of these rabbits to live. Where they are now is not a safe place for them to live so we need to act fast. If you are able to provide a safe haven for any of these rabbits please let us know. Many of these rabbits started off living as pets in peoples homes - many are very friendly and would make super house rabbits. So if you have it in your heart to give a needy bunny, pair of bunnies or group of bunnies a home, please contact us straight away at caroline@bunnybunch.org. or call our hotline (909) 591 7200. We really need homes now!
Unfortunately some of these rabbits are being run over by cars on nearby streets, some are being killed by predators (including humans) and soon the rain will be coming. So please help us help them! We need to act fast to prevent further breeding and getting them into a safe place.
You many donate
to this rescue via paypal by clicking here,
or by mailing a check to: The Bunny Bunch URGENT PARK RESCUE, PO Box 2583,
Chino, CA 91708. Every donation of any amount will help towards food,
shelter, housing, medical care, transporting and spay and neuter for these
rabbits. Thanks a Bunny
Bunch!

GOOD NEWS!
Thank you to everyone who has helped us or sent kind words our way. As you can see from the previous posts on our news we needed help with a number of rabbits.
We are happy to say that we received a donation for the $350 needed to spay and neuter the rabbits that came into one of the Orange County shelters that we cover. This makes a massive difference in the lives of many rabbits. Not only can we get the rabbits spayed or neutered, but it helps us find them homes sooner, which means space will be freed up for other rabbits that are on their way to the shelter, so rabbits will not have to be killed to make room.
As you know we are a no kill organization, but, we have volunteers at many shelters throughout Southern California trying to get spay/neuter programs in place at all shelters, trying to get the rabbits better living conditions, and educating the shelters and the public about rabbit care.
Many of the shelters we work with have to take every animal that is brought through their doors. With so many people not wanting their rabbits and letting their rabbits breed it seems an impossible task for the shelters to take them all in, as there is so little space. Of course we take as many rabbits in as we can into our foster homes and take them to our weekend adoption events in hopes of finding them a forever home. Anyway, all this to say that any help we can get is greatly appreciated.
More good news is that we were able to find super homes for our Angel Bunnies that were listed on a previous post on the news. Darmah is in a super home! She did not have her leg amputated as her other back leg is not in good enough shape to support her. But we were able to help her by getting her on a good diet and giving her some pain control. Now she is a happy healthy bunny. She has the whole downstairs of a house and manages to scoot around all over it.
Bubbles ended up with an abscess because of his teeth, but luckily got adopted by a vet friend of ours who can take care of all his medical needs. He is now living with two other buns that have teeth problems, plus his bunny partner Penelope. Daisy the baby bunny with splayed legs also got adopted to live with two other rabbits.
Frosty (mother to Daisy), who is blind in one eye and may be going blind in the other eye got adopted and is currently being bonded to the male bun of the house. The only bun out of the Angel buns we posted who is left is Moonpie (pictured at left). He is over his jaw abscess and has settled in nicely bonded to another male bun and a fluffy female bun. So now we are looking for a forever home for this lovely trio.
For those
of you who emailed to find out what happened to Copper we are happy to
say we were able to get him out of the shelter into a foster home. In
a couple of weeks he will be ready for adoption. It's
always nice to have good news to report and because of your help and support
we are able to make a difference.
Mother Rabbit and Babies Need Temp or Permanent Home ASAP
Our
Bunny Bunch foster homes are full. Because we are no kill, we cannot take
in a rabbit until a home is found for one of our foster rabbits. We try
our best to help the local shelters in Southern California by either taking
the rabbits into our foster homes or finding homes for them by posting
emails and pictures of the rabbits on our website.
This mother rabbit had her babies at a city shelter and needs a foster
home desperately. If you are able to help us with this please email us
as soon as possible. Keep in mind there are nine babies that will grow
up before your eyes. They will need to be separated by sex at about three
months, so you will need to have enough room to house a pen of males and
a pen females. Once they are old enough we will get them spayed and neutered
and start looking for homes for them. This is quite a commitment for anyone
take on, but well worth the lives you will be saving. Please call 909-591-7200
or email us if you can help.
As always we are thankful for your support.
These
four rabbits need foster homes or homes now!

URGENT!-Need
Your Help Spaying/Neutering Shelter Rabbits
8/9/2006
Fourteen
rabbits came into an already full shelter today in Orange County. Luckily,
the shelter is working with us and setting up temporary living quarters
for the rabbits. We do, however, need to raise $350 to cover the cost
of spay and neuter which needs to be done straight away. If we raise the
money we will be able to get them fixed right away and we will be able
to start looking for homes for them. The sooner they are fixed, the sooner
we can get them homes, which means hopefully no rabbits will be euthanized
at this shelter.
Please help us if you can. Click here
to make a donation via Paypal. Or, you can send your donation to: The
Bunny Bunch, P.O. Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708. Please note that your donation
is for "OC Rabbits". If you have any questions, please email
Caroline.
We are looking for volunteers to help take photos of rabbits for our website, to give hay and veggies, and to spend time grooming and getting to know rabbits while they are at the shelters. No experience needed, we will train you.
If you live near Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Norco, Corona, Pomona, Huntington Beach or Orange, and can help us with rabbits at these shelters please email caroline@bunnybunch.org or call 909 951 7200.
You can help as little
as once a month and as much as once a day, it is up to you. The more help
we have the more rabbits we can save. Thanks
a Bunny Bunch!

Angel Bunnies
Need Your Help
7/19/2006
Darmah
is our new Angel Bunny. She is a quite, gentle bunny. She was taken in
from the street by a couple about four years ago. She has splayed rear
legs, which is when the rear legs go out to the side so she cannot stand
or hop. She had been doing fine, but with in the last year her right leg
started bothering her and she stared to chew and bite it. The couple who
took her in were no longer able to care for her so she was brought to
us.
She is now in our care and is on pain meds for her leg. It seems that
having her right leg amputated will be the best thing for her. We have
taken care of many rabbits that have had to have a leg amputed and they
have all done very well.
The
cost for surgery will be around $600, so we are (once again) asking for
help. If you are able to donate anything at all it will be a great help
to us. You may donate through Paypal by clicking here,
or mail a check to The Bunny Bunch, PO Box, Chino, CA 91708. Please note
on the Paypal form or check memo that the donation is for Darmah.
Currently Darmah can get around a little, she loves to lay on nice comfy
pillows and loves lots and lots of attention. So far she is doing really
well.
Moonpie (above right) was rescued from a high kill shelter. When he came
to us we discovered that he had a jaw abcess. He is now undergoing treatment
and is doing very well. Once he has totally recovered he will be available
for adoption. He knows his names and loves to get attention. He will need
to live with another rabbit and should be easy to bond.
You may make a donation for Moonpie's surgery through Paypal by clicking
here, or mail a check to The Bunny
Bunch, PO Box, Chino, CA 91708. Please note on the Paypal form or check
memo that the donation is for Moonpie.
Thanks a Bunny Bunch for your support!

Lady Bird (now June Bug) is a Happy, Healthy Rabbit
Caroline Charland with June Bug |
|
| June Bug fully recovered! |
When
June Bug came in to our rescue he was in such bad shape that we did not
sex him, in fact we did not know if he would make it through the night.
After we took the photos and wrote the story for the website site, we
realized she is a he. The previous humans had him for years, thinking
he was a girl. Anyway, June Bug is one of the sweetest rabbits every.
He is always happy to see you, loves to lick your whole face and loves
to be fussed over.
Now he has a clean bill of health and has been neutered. He is ready to
start bunny dating! If you have a spayed female that is looking for a
husbun please give us a call at 909-591-7200, or email Caroline.
Of course, he can only live as a house rabbit with lots and lots of love.
Ladybird,
a Rabbit With the Will to Survive
3/6/2006
Ladybird was brought into our
program hardly alive. As you can see, she had a very bad case of mites.
Her poor ears were pulled down as if she were a lop, her back and eyes
were scabbed over from mite infestation. Her right eye was closed shut
and infected, she had sore hocks, could hardly walk due to being kept
in a small cage and her breathing was labored. Plus, the smell of the
rotting flesh, filth and infection was over bearing.
![]() |
![]() |
Poor thing! She had lived like this for months, if not years, in a small filthy cage!
We started treatment on her straight away, giving her round the clock care in hopes that she would make it. We gave her pain meds, antibiotics, treatment for the mites, sub-q fluids, meds to support her G.I. track, kept her on a heating disk and syringe fed her to keep her alive. It was very sad to see this poor bun in such a horrific state.
We had many ups and downs in the first few days, but slowly, day by day, she is improving. At first she had tiny poops, so more G.I. treatments were needed. We put her in a large pen so she could get used to using her leg muscles again. At first she walked like a caterpillar; but before long she started to hop again, and after five days she even jumped out of her pen!
She started to eat on her own - veggies, crushed up pellets, hay and grasses that we grow in a cup. She also started drinking water. Before long all the debris from the mite infestation started dropping off and she started grooming herself.
It
is one week today since we took her in. See how much better she looks
now! She is quite a little rascal, she likes to run around, jump up on
everything, loves to lick your face and went straight for the buttons
on the remote during her first play time in the living room.
A beautiful bunny bloomed, whom we named "Ladybird".

**MYXOMATOSIS ALERT**
We have been informed that three rabbits in Oceanside have died in the past week from myxomatosis. Myxomatosis is a virus transmitted to rabbits via the bite of insects such as mosquitoes, ticks and fleas. There is currently no effective treatment, and it is almost always fatal.
Controlling your
rabbits' exposure to mosquitoes, ticks and fleas is
imperative in order to prevent myxomatosis. Rabbits housed outdoors or
given outdoor run time are at highest risk.
For more information
about myxomatosis, see the following websites:

SPRING IS HERE; WHY ISNT IT BEAUTIFUL?
Spring is supposed to the the time of year when we celebrate the re-birth of Mother Natures grandeur; when we revel at the beauty of her flowers and all the wonderful wild creatures she has created. If you believe all this was placed here for our pleasure, then you should believe that we are her stewards intended to care for this planet and what it produces.
Why then does the City of Mission Viejo, California see fit to allow a pest control company to go into the senior housing development of Casta del Sol in the dark of night and shoot the beautiful cottontail rabbits with pellet guns? Having rescued a domestic rabbit who had been shot twice with a pellet gun I can tell you that these guns wound more frequently than kill; leaving the rabbit to suffer until it finally dies of an infection.
At the Bunny Bunch we understand that people in Casta del Sol want their yards to be beautiful and that fencing ones yard is not permitted. But when humans build their homes on the edge of a wilderness area, its only fair that they should expect to share their yards with Mother Natures other creatures. The wild cottontails and brush rabbits are one of the most beautiful gifts we in Orange County are given each Spring.
Please urge the City of Mission Viejo to stop this senseless killing by e-mailing their City Council members:
Mayor Patricia Kelley at pkelley@mission-viejo.com
Mayor Pro Tem Lance MacLean at lmaclean@mission-viejo.com
Council Member Gail Reavis at greavis@mission-viejo.com

Make
Valentine's Day a Happy one for Your Single Bunny!
2/3/2005
![]() |
| Bona & Moo-We are for adoption! Take us home! |
In celebration of Adopt a Rabbit month and Valentines Day, The Bunny Bunch is asking people to visit us at our adoption events with their single (spayed or neutered) rabbits in order to find them a valentine to adopt.
Rabbits
should always live with at least one other rabbit. If they live alone
they can become lonely and bored. Having a pair of rabbits is much better
for your bun, plus you don't have to worry about your rabbit being alone
when you are not home.
They will use
the same litter box, food, and water bowls, so it is not more trouble
for you. Plus, instead of having one rabbit following you around, jumping
up on the couch for affection and following you to the refrigerator for
veggies, you will have two! Of
course, your rabbit must be spayed or neutered before starting any bunny
dating or bonding.
Maybe it's you who needs a Valentine? We have lots of pairs of rabbits just waiting to give you lots of love. Check out our Events page to see where to find us, then call to schedule a dating date and time. Or call 909-591-7200 or email Caroline.
You may be able to save a life and fall in love, all in the month of February! Happy Valentine's Day from The Bunny Bunch!

Great
News!
11/15/2004
A
large group of rabbits from our 300 rabbit rescue will be relocating to
their new home, hopefully this month. Thanks to Cathy, a Bunny Bunch member,
who is allowing us to build a large rabbit area where these lucky rabbits
can live and play for the rest of their lives.
After some bonding we are hoping to take a group of about twenty five
rabbits there. We need to provide some building materials to make this
happen, so we are trying to raise $1,200.00 for this project.
We already have a volunteer who is letting us use her horse trailer to
move the buns and supplies. Plus we have volunteers scheduled at both
ends to make this happen.
If you are able to help or know anyone that can, please send a check with
300 RR on the envelope to: The Bunny Bunch PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708.
You may also make a donation thru Paypal by clicking here.
Make sure you mention your donation is for the 300 RR.
After these buns go to their new home, we will only be left with twelve
runs of rabbits at the 300 property and about forty in foster from this
rescue.
Once again, "Thanks" to everyone helping us make this a success!
Bunny
Expo 2004 & 300 Rabbit Rescue
We had an absolutely super time at Bunny Expo 2004. The weather was lovely
we had lots of volunteers and a great turn out of bunny people.
We do have some good applications for some of the rabbits from the 300 rabbit rescue. Thank you to everyone who baked for The Hop café bake sale, donated items for our silent auction and bought bunny products from our Bunny Bunch Boutique all these proceeds go to help the rabbits...
If you
were not able to come you may have seen us on the news Saturday night
or Monday night. There will be two follow up stories in the Chino Champion
and the
Daily Bulletin. We
still have lots of rabbits waiting for new homes, so dont forget
you can fill out an adoption application online by clicking here
or over the phone by calling 909-591-7200..
We also have good news about the rabbits left at the property. We have a couple more groups getting adopted and have a place to keep the rest of the rabbits for the winter and spring.
This has been quite an accomplishment. We were able to raise all the money to cover the cost of spay/neuter, got lots of donations of supplies, worked with vets that reduced our cost on medical care and have had fourteen volunteers per week cover caring for the rabbits at the property!
That is all on top of caring for rabbits at Petsmart and Petco where they live seven days a week, covering adoption events every Saturday and covering the shelters. Not to mention all the two hundred rabbits we have in foster homes in Southern California.
Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers and supporters.
Now we are getting close to the end of the 300 rabbit rescue and we are excited to announce that we have a full time grant team working hard to get funds for a building. If we are successful in raising enough money we hope to open our very own education and adoption center for rabbits in 2005.
Join The Bunny Bunch at Petco in Chino & Petsmart in Chino Hills
Our
volunteers are at these stores every Saturday from 12:30pm to 4:00pm.
We have lots of lovely rabbits waiting for a home of their own. Plus,
bring in your own rabbit for a free nail trim. There will be free rabbit
care handouts, our newsletter and volunteer opportunities. We have rabbits
at these two stores seven days a week, so pop in anytime to visit them.
We have a great volunteer program and are always looking for help. For
more information, call us at 909-591-7200, or email Caroline.
Hope to see you there.
I'm up for adoption!
"Buns
Across America"
Update on the 300 Rabbit Rescue
I know it has been awhile since we've given you an update, but we have been busy!
All the rabbits are now spayed or neutered except for the babies. We have a great team of volunteers working hard to care for these rabbits. We go in the morning to do veggies, water pellets and hay. Then go in the evening to clean litter boxes and check on everyone.
We have had some set backs along the way, such as rabbits escaping. Some of these guys are crafty! They will sit in the back of the run while you clean, then make a mad dash for the door. Luckily, we have been able to catch any that got out. In fact, most wanted to come back into their run once they got out.
We will be taking more pictures this weekend and will have a new program to help raise funds for them. We will be asking all of you lovely rabbit people to help us by sponsoring a rabbit run. Each run has from two to five rabbits in it. We will be taking photos and posting them on our website. By sponsoring a run you will be helping provide hay, veggies, pellets, toys and any necessary care for the buns in the run.
Now is the time to let us know if you have room for another rabbit, or two, or three or a group. We need to place these rabbits in homes by the end of September. We will be starting our "Buns Across America" plans this month. We need homes and transport to get all of these lovely rabbits into their new homes. If anyone has any media contacts that can help us publicize this, please let us know. We would like to get on national television in hopes of finding more rabbit people out there to help us.
Thank you to everyone that has helped us with this, without you it would be impossible!
For more information or if you can help in any way, please email Caroline or Kim or call the Bunny Bunch at 909-591-7200.
The Bunny Bunch at Petsmart in Fullerton
Join us beginning Saturday, June 26th from noon to 4 p.m. Come and meet our rabbits for adoption, sign up for membership or volunteering, or just come by to say "Hi". Store address is 1411 S. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton.
We will be doing free rabbit nail trims, so bring your rabbit. There will also be free newsletters, free rabbit care info, and items from our boutique.
We will be at this location the fourth Saturday of every month. If you love rabbits and have a couple of hours to spare consider making a difference for the buns and sign up to become a Bunny Bunch volunteer. Hope to see you there!

They were rescued when they were just a couple of days old. They are now
17 months old and have grown into beautiful shiny black bunnies and oh
so sweet. They love to be rubbed and give kisses. If you have room in
your heart for a rabbit that needs love, please call us at 909-591-7200,
or email Kim.

Rescue!

| The bunnies now have safe housing! But they all still need loving homes. |
Last Saturday volunteers started at 7:00 am, taking newly caught rabbits to the vet to be spayed. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the building team, Val, Julie, Michelle, Nancy and Kim, worked hard in the heat to finish off the roof on the rabbit enclosure, plus adding more misters and shade cloth. Now the rabbits have runs with litter boxes, a hidey place, ice bottles, misters and a nice roof to reflect the sun. Just in time as the temperatures here in Southern California have begun to soar.
We always advise people to keep their rabbits indoors. All of our shelter foster rabbits are kept indoors. For the 300 rabbit rescue,we had no choice but to build something weather and predator proof outside to keep them in as we have no room in our already full foster homes.
At 4:00 p.m. a new group of volunteers arrived to help bond eleven rabbits. Ten of these rabbit were from the 300 rescue and one was from the person who would be adopting this group. Surprisingly, the bonding was quite easy and went very well. The group went home with Susan so she could watch them over night to make sure they continued to get along before they went to their new home.
We do still need volunteers to help with the daily care of these rabbits. Please let us know if you have a couple of hours to spare any day of the week. We need help with feeding, cleaning, supplies, transporting and getting donations.
At 7:30 p.m. Tanya arrived direct from Las Vegas with the eleven rabbits that went to be neutered. These twelve had gone to Vegas and then on to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary two weeks prior. One got adopted from Best Friends and the other came back to us.
By the time we got the eleven rabbits settled, and got everyone else cleaned and fed it was close to 11:00pm. We were all so tired, but had smiles on our faces knowing that the rabbits were safe and protected. And we had accomplished much - we had caught five more rabbits throughout the day, eleven rabbits made it back safely from Vegas, and ten rabbits would be going to their new home this coming week.
We now have over one hundred rabbits living in enclosures on the property, about fifty in foster homes and forty have found permanent homes. It looks like we are close to catching the remaining groups, there are probably about twenty left.
We do, however, need to find homes for them, plus we need foster homes for rabbits at our local shelter as their time is running out and we are so full. You can see the rabbits in danger on our website under Adoptions Inland Empire area. They are marked in danger.
Soon we will begin planning the building in New Jersey where the rabbits we cannot find homes for from the 300 will be going to live. We will continue to keep you updated. Thank you all for your support - we truly could not do this without it. For more information, please email Caroline, or call the Bunny Bunch at 909-591-7200.
Home Needed to Host Abandoned Bunnies
URGENT!!! We have to find a home soon to host our 2 bunny enclosures and 18 feral bunnies, as well as several semi-socialized house bunnies from the same group.
In 2003 we rounded up 40 abandoned bunnies at a local private company (the rabbits would likely have been exterminated otherwise), and paid to have them neutered. Now, we must find a place to put two groups of 9 rabbits. We have an additional 9 that we will have to find indoor homes for very soon.
The enclosures are 4' x 16'. They would have to be in the shade, in a low-predator area and where the temperature never reaches 90F. Normally, we don't recommend bunnies living outside, but most of these bunnies are second- and third-generation dumped bunnies that would not be happy living with people in their home. Most of the bunnies are quite shy and don't trust people (can you blame them?), but they are a joy to watch and come up for food. They are medium small bunnies, very handsome, mostly black with little white nose or paw tips or Russian grey; some are part Lop and have that adorable one-ear-up, one-ear-down look.
You could also agree to foster a couple of the semi-socialized ones that we would like to tame more so that we can make them into "house bunnies." This would entail cuddling and litterbox-training for a few months!

Buns on the Run-An Update on our 300 Rabbits
On
Saturday, April 17th at 5:00 a.m., one of our dedicated volunteers, Tanya,
loaded up her Toyota Corolla to the brim with buns in carriers going off
to Best Friends in Utah to be spayed and neutered. Tanya met Lori (a Best
Friends volunteer) half way (which is Las Vegas) where the buns were swapped
into the Best Friends van. All the buns did fine, in fact, Tanya could
hear the munching of veggies all the way to Vegas!
These
buns are scheduled to come back to the 300 rabbit property if we cannot
find another rescue to take all or some of them in. If anyone out
there can help, please let us know! We would prefer they go on
from Best Friends to a permanent or foster home, as we need the space
for catching more of the group in Chino. If they are to come back to us,
we will need a driver to pick them up from Las Vegas and get them back
to us in Chino on Friday, April 30th.
Saturday was also roof building day at the rabbit property. We have been using tarps on top of the rabbit runs that were built, so plans for a real roof became reality. Along with the roof, sprinklers are being installed to keep the buns cool. Of course, we had to have another rain storm that day! Luckily our volunteers were there and the buns were kept safe and dry. Not our volunteers, though! We got soaked to the bone and were there until after midnight building the roof frame and installing it in the pouring rain! But, all's well that ends well. For more information or for how you can help, please email Caroline, or call the Bunny Bunch at 909-591-7200.
Update on 300 Rabbit Rescue
4/5/04
We had an unexpected rain storm here in California. The rain came down so hard we had a load of water on the tarp roofs over the rabbits. All the hay and pellets got wet and some of the rabbits and other supplies. This all happened while we were away at Pet Expo for the weekend. Luckily we had volunteers that were able to go and get everything cleaned up and back to normal. We now have to get a permanent roof on in case of any more rain. We also plan on putting up a misting system and more enclosures.
We have had our first adoption of a lovely little cream colored rabbit from the 300. This rabbit came to us from the property as a teen. After being spayed she was bonded to a rabbit we had from a high kill shelter and they went to their new home together, to live as spoiled house rabbits! She is featured on the cover of our spring newsletter.
More good news - we have fifteen rabbits leaving this weekend to Vegas. From Vegas, Best Friends will be meeting us and taking them to Utah for spay and neuter. We are hoping to get them to another rescue in the area after they have recovered.
Another ten, which have already been spayed or neutered will be leaving for their new homes this weekend too.
Building plans
are starting for the New Jersey rabbit rescue, who has offered take in
the rabbits we can not find other rescues or homes for. We are planning
on a nice big barn with an enclosed predator-proof
outdoor area. We will
be looking for volunteers to help with the building and getting building
items donated in that area.
Thank you for the support and donations that are being sent for the 300 rabbit rescue. If you have not yet donated and would like to, you may mail your donation to The Bunny Bunch/300 Rabbit Rescue, PO Box 2583 Chino, CA 91708. Or, click here to make a donation through Paypal. Please designate your donation as 300 Rabbit Rescue. Your donation, of any amount, will help us in our effort to try to spay/neuter, provide medical care and build temporary shelter for these rabbits.

300 Rabbit Rescue Update/Thanks
to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary!
3/18/2004
We have great news! Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah has offered to do all the spay and neuters for all three hundred rabbits. What a relief this is to us! So here is the plan: Every two weeks we need to transport fifteen rabbits from Chino to Las Vegas (about a four hour trip). Once the rabbits reach Las Vegas, Best Friends will take them to their sanctuary in Utah (about a three hour trip). Once they arrive there they will be spayed or neutered and will stay for a two week recovery.
![]() |
| Volunteers building shelter for the 300 rabbits |
So now we need volunteers to transport rabbits to Las Vegas starting next week. With 300 rabbits it will take about twenty trips. Ideally, Best Friends would like us to get them there on a Wednesday or Thursday, but because most of us work during the week, Saturday in the early a.m. will work too. Please email me caroline@bunnybunch.org if you are able to help with any trips, or call 909-591-7200. I will be putting a calendar together to make sure we can get all the weeks covered.
We are still in need of local vets to offer free or low cost spay/neuter so we can get as many done as soon as possible to prevent more litters from being born.
Now that we have the spay and neuters planned, we need to do rabbit round ups on a regular basis, so I will be posting the dates for upcoming rounds ups this weekend.
We still need help at the rabbit property caring for the rabbits on a daily basis. If anyone lives in the Chino area and can spare an hour or two to help please, email me, or call 909-591-7200.
The next step is finding places for these lovely sweet rabbits to go. If you know of a rescue or animal sanctuary, please call or email them and tell them we are desperate for homes. We would like to place groups, but can also do pairs and singles.
Best Friends has also offered to help us transport the spayed/neutered rabbits to their new homes/rescues. The first step is to find out which rescues can take some of these rabbits and how many, when they can take them and where they are located. Keep in mind this project will be going on for a long time, so if you are a rescue and are full now, but may be able to take some in a few weeks or a few months, that works too. Again, please email me with the info.
Now for donations this is what we need: Large and small litter boxes, Carefresh, large trash bags, white vinegar, plastic rabbit carriers, small and large crocks, veggies, kitten advantage, exercise pens, misting systems, postage, mailing labels, copy paper, envelopes, building supplies, money for medical costs, gas for trips to Las Vegas, etc. (We did have some problems with processing payments through Paypal a week or so ago, but that has now been resolved. If you have any problems making a donation through Paypal, please email Kim). Click here to make a donation through Paypal. Please designate your donation as 300 Rabbit Rescue.
A big "Thank
You" to Best Friends and to everyone who has donated and volunteered.
Once again our volunteers and rabbit friends have come through to make
this all happen!
Another Update on
the 300 Rabbit Round Up in Chino
3/11/04
Today, March 10th, we are just finishing up with some of the runs that were built this weekend, doing some planning and catching some of the rabbits. Animal control is not coming out today to catch rabbits, as we have spoken to the neighbors and it looks like we will have a little more time with this project.
We are, however, overwhelmed with rabbits and need to get them to other rescues or homes right away. We can only contain and care for so many at a time, so our plan is to get the group we have now (about twenty five) into homes or to rescues. So we can continue to catch and care for the rest. If you have room please contact us ASAP as we have to get these rabbits into homes right away.
We are talking to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah and it looks like they will be able to help us with transportation, but not with taking in any rabbits as they are full.
Round up dates will be scheduled within the week so stay tuned for more info. More photos to come soon. Once again, thank you all for your support. Caroline Charland

Bunny Bunch
at Pasadena Petsmart
3/8/04
We are coming back to Pasadena to hold our adoption, education and Bunny Bunch Boutique events at the Petsmart on Foothill Blvd in Pasadena starting on Saturday, March 13th, 2004. We missed all the bunny friends we made at this store and are finally in a position where we can come back on the second Saturday of every month. As usual we will be doing free bunny manicures so BYOB! (Bring your own bunny). Of course, we will have our latest newsletter and rabbit care sheets, plus guinea pig, hamster and chinchilla care sheets too! (all of which we also have for adoption). Rabbits needing homes will be coming from Pasadena foster homes and the local shelters. Dont forget our lovely rabbit toys, treats, hay and pellets and people gifts that we always bring. Feel free to call in any orders you would like to will call and you can pick them up from us at this store. We are also looking for volunteers to come and enjoy an afternoon of bunny chat and bunny loving. Our hours will be from 12:30 to 4:00pm. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! For more information, please email caroline@bunnybunch.org
300 Rabbit
Rescue in Chino California Update
3/3/04
We
are now one week into this rescue. It took a bit of doing but we now have
a kind-hearted resident that is letting us set up hutches and enclosures
on her property temporarily to keep the rabbits in. So, donated hutches
are being delivered and the first batch of enclosures are being designed,
all to be built and in place this weekend.
The 11 rabbits that were caught by animal control are now in temporary foster. Two mothers gave birth the day we got them. One litter was born dead; the other survived. These Chino rabbits are absolutely lovely! Most, of course are scared at first, but they come around very quickly. The 11 rabbits in foster are very sweet. Click here to see photos.
Thank you to everyone who has donated to this cause. So far we have received $700.00, which is going towards building the first batch of enclosures. We now need to raise money for spay/neuter, plus ongoing care until homes can be found.
We are desperate to get these rabbits to other rescues. We are currently overloaded with fosters (as I know all rescues are) and are also working on the Pearson Park round up in Orange County, plus a bad situation involving twenty rabbits in Pasadena. This does not include the rabbits at the twenty shelters we cover in Southern California.
Anyone who can adopt, or rescues that can take groups, or even one rabbit (I would prefer pairs to go together), please email me at bunirescue@aol.com. We know we will not be able to avoid more babies being born even though we will being spaying the females ASAP. So we are also looking for homes for mothers and babies too. Just think if every rabbit rescue was able to take just two rabbits we would be well on our way to ending this bad situation!
Thank you to everyone who has already offered to help. We will be sending out updates through the news on our website and via emails of upcoming round up dates, plus more building dates. As we secure safe homes and fosters we will be looking for help with transportation.
This is a long term rescue effort, so help will be needed at least through the rest of this year.

Over 200 Rabbits Discovered
in Neighborhood in Chino
2/26/2004
I
just got a call from our local humane society that all five of the rabbits
that are there, including five guinea pigs, will be killed at noon today.
I never get use to receiving this kind of news and know that I have to
do something about it. These rabbits have been at this shelter for quite
a while. Our volunteers go in and give them veggies and toys, take photos
of them to post on our website in hopes of finding them a home. The hard
thing is that we have so many foster rabbits in volunteer's foster homes
that we just have no room to take anymore in, so they have to stay at
the shelters until we can place them or have room. This shelter is working
with us and calls us rather than just deciding to kill them.
The reason for the urgent call to me from the shelter, was that 11 more rabbits had come in from an area in Chino that has 200 to 300 rabbits, all of which will end up at this shelter, a shelter that only has twelve cages. What are we to do? I did get the five rabbits out that were going to be killed (even though I am not sure where I am going to put them yet) and a local guinea pig rescue was kind enough to take in the five guinea pigs. So for now all are safe.
But now we have the overwhelming job of figuring out what to do with 200 to 300 more. Our first step is to ask for help, once again, for funding for spay/neuter, medical care and building supplies, as we are hoping to find places that will let us build predator proof and weather protected living area for these rabbits, and to place them in groups once they have been spayed or neutered. Of course, they are all adorable and deserve to live a happy life. These rabbits were the result of a breeder moving and setting loose all his rabbits, which have been left to fend for themselves. Many were killed by predators and many survived, breeding and roaming free on people's property. Now, these people have asked to have them all removed due the all the burrows and structural damage to their houses. So, we will gladly do what we do best and be hopeful that we can save them all. We welcome any help we can get. Thanks a Bunny Bunch! Caroline Charland
Rabbits Dumped
at Anaheim Park/Orange County Volunteer Meeting
2/20/2004
On
Sunday night, February 15, about 20 volunteers got together to round up
rabbits that had been dumped at a park in Anaheim. The rabbits had been
living there for a while, breeding, digging burrows and living off the
vegetation. The problem was that rabbits were being found dead. Being
run over by cars and killed by predators. People at the park started complaining,
so the city had to do something about it. A lady who does duck rescue
found out about all this and contacted us. It is thought that there are
about thirty rabbits, adults and babies. These rabbits are lovely; most
like to be held and will make wonderful house rabbits. We managed to catch
twelve rabbits, some of which went into foster and some of which went
to the Orange County shelter as all our foster homes are full. We still
have more rabbits to catch but are in need of a safe place to take these
lovely creatures, including the rabbits that have already been taken to
the shelter as their time is short there. If anyone can provide a safe
home or knows of a rabbit sanctuary that may have room, please contact
us immediately. We will have all these rabbits spayed and neutered and
will transport them. Time is running out so please contact Caroline or
call the Bunny Bunch at 909-591-7200.
Please join The Bunny Bunch for a volunteer meeting at the Orange County
Care Facility, 561 The City Drive South, Orange, CA 92868 (one block North
of the 22 fwy) on Sunday, February 22nd at 11:00 am. We will be meeting
by the rabbit area. The purpose of this meeting is to gain more volunteers
in the Orange County area to help us care for and place the rabbits at
this shelter and other shelters. We are also in need of volunteers to
help us with fundraising and help at our adoption and education events.
Currently we have a few volunteers that provide hay, veggies and toys
to the rabbits while at the shelter but we do need more coverage. So,
come and meet lots of lovely rabbits and lots of lovely rabbit people.
if you have any questions call Caroline at (909) 591-7200 or email her
at caroline@bunnybunch.org.
Hope to see you there.
Update on Shego, the Amazing
Bunny
02/18/04
Some
of you may have read about Shego, a very amazing rabbit. (Click here
to read all about her). Shego is doing great after her medical scare last
year. Her most recent blood work showed a low white cell count, so she
is on antibiotics and more blood work as a follow up. She is in great
spirits!
In October last
year, at the Bunny Expo, Shegos family took in a cute baby male
rex to foster temporarily. He was going to be dumped at a local shelter.
This cute bunny, Mr. Peanut, won over his foster family, and lucky Shego
got a new pal. They bonded immediately. Sometimes, Mr. Peanuts youth
and enthusiasm overwhelm Shego and she has to retreat to a quiet corner,
and Mr. Peanut knows to leave her alone. Alternately, Mr. Peanuts
energy is great for Shego too, and he encourages her to occasionally get
into trouble along with him. What a happy ending, for both rabbits!
SOMEBUNNY OUT THERE NEEDS
YOU--IT'S ADOPT-A-RESCUED-RABBIT MONTH!
2/1/2004
Join the ASPCA and The Bunny Bunch in celebrating this February as Adopt-a-Rescued-Rabbit Month. These wonderfully affectionate creatures are one of the most popular small mammals in American households--but unfortunately, they are also the third most common species relinquished at U.S. shelters.
"Rabbits make excellent pets for the right people," says Julie Morris, ASPCA Senior Vice President, National Shelter Outreach. "They're intelligent, social animals capable of forming lifelong bonds with their human companions."
And did you know they're also capable of being litter-box trained? Or that when they're super happy, they'll launch into a series of kicks and leaps known to rabbit aficionados as the bunny dance? Alas, there are also many common myths about these popular pets. Think that rabbits are easier to care for than most animal companions? Or that they're happiest living in a hutch outside, so they can be more like their wild cousins? During Adopt-a-Rescued-Rabbit Month, we're here to dispel these myths--and many others--so that potential owners can enjoy a greater understanding of what a bunny needs to be happy and healthy. For all you ever wanted to know about rabbits, please visit ASPCA online-- and stay tuned for more great info all throughout this month.
Chinchilla
Rescue!
01/14/03
We
recently took in sixteen chinchillas from a bad situation, in addition
to the eight we already have in foster, a total of 25 chins, with a baby
arriving just a few days ago. These chinchillas are of all ages and colors
and need permanent homes. We do have to hold on to some of the females
for 110 days to make sure they are not pregnant, and, if they are, to
let them have their babies. We do have the males neutered and will pair
them with a female for adoption. Some will remain single so they can be
paired with chins people may already have. We DO NOT ALLOW breeding
at all. If you can commit for the next 20 years to taking care of and
providing a loving safe home to one or two of these wonderful little animals,
please email Caroline.
We also need help with donations to help with their housing, food and vet checks. If you can help (every bit helps) please mail a check to The Bunny Bunch/Chin Care, PO Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708 or donate via PayPal by clicking here. Indicate your donation is for 16 Chinchilla Rescue.
For those of you who are not familiar with chins, we now have chin care information and adoptable chin photos posted under our Adopt a Chinchilla link, so you can learn all about them.
The Bunny
Bunch--Los Angeles Chapter needs volunteers
for the following positions:
12/5/03
Fundraiser: to
head a fundraising committee that will raise
approximately $1,000 per month to help support area shelter and foster
rabbits.
Public Relations
expert: to issue press releases and handle publicity
(including fliers and advertisements) for events, and to meet with
shelter personnel, veterinarians, and others to help our cause.
Can you help? Contact Michelle or call 310-473-8354
BREAKING
NEWS! MANDATORY SPAY/NEUTER POLICY FOR RABBITS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED
BY LOS ANGELES (CITY) ANIMAL SERVICES COMMISSION!!!!
11/16/03
All bunnies at the Los Angeles City Shelters will be neutered before adoption, and the adoption fee will only be $50. This will help us to keep pet rabbit overpopulation down, and is great news for the rescue groups that now have to pay the adoption fee AND the neuter costs.
To make this program
successful, we need your help!
VOLUNTEERS
To make our program truly successful, we need volunteers in the shelters
to monitor the rabbit situation, get photos for our website, and care
for bunnies post-op. The shelter staff does not always have time to shuttle
bunnies back and forth to the veterinarians. We desperately need volunteers
who will transport rabbits when they need to be neutered. The hours and
days depend on the veterinarian and when the bunny is adopted, but most
transporting will have to be done during the week. Please call Michelle
at 310-473-8354 or e-mail her at kellym@ucla.edu
if you can volunteer in any capacity.
FUNDS
The City will set up a Revolving Fund for the rabbits. The entire adoption
fee of $50 will go into that fund every time a bunny is adopted from one
of the 6 Los Angeles City shelters. The problem is that most of our spays
will cost $75, and we have to fundraise the difference. If there is no
money in the Revolving Fund, the rabbits will be euthanized (by policy
they will not be allowed to go home unneutered). So we must make sure
that there are enough funds in the account. If you can afford to make
a tax-deductible contribution to this fund for any amount, please make
your donation payable to "The Bunny Bunch" and send it to: The
Bunny Bunch--Los Angeles, P.O. Box 252124, Los Angeles, CA 90025. Please
indicate on your check that it is to be used for the S/N REVOLVING FUND.
You will receive a tax receipt and a statement indicating how much money
we have received so far. Thank you for your support!!
HOMES FOR OUR
SHELTER RABBITS
Please help us spread the word that the City of Los Angeles will soon
have neutered bunnies! Encourage everyone you know to become educated
about rabbits, come to Bunny Bunch adoption events, and to only adopt
from an animal shelter or a group such as The Bunny Bunch, that rescues
rabbits from shelters when their time is up. The Los Angeles Chapter holds
adoptions every Saturday 12:30-3:30 at Centinela Feed,
3860 Centinela Ave., Mar Vista, CA 90066.
Shego,
the Amazing Angel Bunny
The Amazing Story of a Rescued Rabbit
11/15/03
This
quarters Angel Bunny features Shego, an amazingly resilient bunny
that has overcome so much in the last few months and needs our help.
Shegos story begins one Friday afternoon last summer, when the Bunny Bunch received an urgent call from a high kill shelter informing them that a sweet black rabbit residing at the shelter was set to be euthanized that afternoon. Immediately the Bunny Bunch sprang into action. While Caroline Charland persuaded the shelter to hold off for the weekend, volunteers burned up the phone lines and pounded out emails to everyone they knew, searching for, at the very least, a temporary foster home for this helpless black bunny.
The weekend came and went with no luck in finding a temporary home for the pretty rabbit. A temporary solution was found by transferring her to another more accessible shelter where Bunny Bunch volunteers could monitor her everyday. Her inquisitive nature and bright eyes grew on the shelter volunteers and she was nicknamed Yoshiko. However, within weeks this shelter soon filled up and once again, the dreaded call came in that this rabbit would be euthanized within 48 hours.
Across town Bunny Bunch Board member Kim Scharf was updating the website and noticed Yoshikos picture. Still grieving over the loss of her 12 year-old black bunny Brett, Kim felt something tug at her heart. She knew at once that she had to help and she agreed to foster this black bunny. Within 24 hours Yoshiko was nestled safe and sound into the Scharf home where Keaton, Kims son, christened the rabbit Shego, named after a tough but beautiful raven-haired character on a Disney show. Little did they know that Shego would live up to her namesake.
Shego ran and played and leapt for joy in her new bunny home. She dove into her greens and hay and explored the Scharf home with newfound delight. But after awhile Kim noticed that Shego had an unsteady gait and frequently bobbed her head up and down. Wanting to be reassured that everything was ok, Kim took Shego to Dr. Sari Kanfer at Dr. Domotors Animal Hospital in Monrovia for a battery of tests. The results were not good, but Kim and Dr. Kanfer had hope.
An Xray showed that one of Shegos ribs may have been broken at one point in time and that she could have a mild case of spondylosis, where vertebrae in the lumbar region of a rabbit fuses to one another in places. This could have contributed to Shegos unsteady gait. Dr. Kanfer also thought that Shegos head bobbing might be due to a problem in the cerebellum portion of her brain, something she could have possibly been born with. Tests were also done to see if Shego was infected with E. Cunniculi, a common parasite in rabbits that can cause a host of problems, among them, head tilt. The tests revealed that Shego tested medium positive and she was immediately put on a course of Albendazole for six weeks. (Benzimidazole derivatives, which include Albendazole, Fenbendazole and Oxibendazole, are de-wormers that are used on various species of animals (dogs, cats, horses) to rid them of intestinal parasites. They work by blocking the transport and uptake of glucose. Though EC is a protozoal parasite, it is thought to have a similar effect.)
At first Shego seemed to respond well. She ate normally and used her litter box and went on playing and exploring in her new home. But alarming changes began to occur. Near the end of her treatment she suddenly stopped using her litter box. Then her previously voracious appetite slowed. First she stopped eating hay, then greens, then pellets. She started drinking large amounts of water and she became lethargic. Within a week she stopped eating altogether.
Shego was rushed to an emergency veterinarian center where she received IV fluids and supportive care to get her digestive system moving again, crucial elements paramount to a rabbits survival in any health crisis. The next morning Shego was transferred from the emergency clinic to Dr. Kanfers care again, this time for a full blood workup and more X-rays. The test results were not good. Shegos bloodwork showed an extremely low number of white and red blood cells as well as very high liver enzyme readings. The most shocking news of all; Shego was experiencing bone marrow failure.
The only course of treatment was to have a blood transfusion. Several rabbit safe antibiotics were fed intravenously to Shego. Among them; Baytril and Flagyl. After the transfusion Shego began a course of drugs that would fight infection, keep her digestive system moving and ease her pain.
Shego was a brave little bunny the entire time. All the same, Dr. Kanfer feared that Shego might not make it through the night. Being the truly compassionate vet that she is, Dr. Kanfer could not stand the idea of this brave little bunny dying alone at the veterinary hospital. She allowed Shego to go home that night with the provision that her foster mother administer the blood transfusion. This seemed a daunting task to Kim, but she rose to the task and stayed with Shego through the night, giving her 1 cc injections of blood every 15 minutes through a catheter port in her paw.
Immediately after the transfusion Shego seemed to improve. She was alert and her appetite returned somewhat. But within 24 hours she became lethargic again. Shego was taken back to Dr. Kanfer and more bloodwork was done. The tests showed that although Shego was not dangerously anemic any longer, she was not regenerating enough platelets and white and red blood cells to survive. Dr. Kanfer said that Shego needed GI and fluid support until her bone marrow overcame the insult it had suffered and began to produce cells again.
Hoping that Shego would regenerate the necessary cells and platelets, Kim and the Bunny Bunch gave Shego time to recuperate for a day or two. Despite being offered her favorite foods, Shego refused to eat. She was then fed Critical Care through a syringe, but within a few days her condition worsened. She barely moved and seemed warm. Another trip back to Dr. Kanfer revealed that Shegos temperature was 105 degrees (normal rabbit temperature ranges between 101-103 degrees). Her antibiotics were switched immediately and she began receiving injections of Naxcel, along with an anti-inflammatory drug called Banamine to help reduce her fever.
Shegos fever abated and she slowly stabilized. Shego was brought home and her foster mom continued supportive care. After a week, more blood work was done. There was some goods news; Shego was starting to make white blood cells and platelets, but not the red blood cells she desperately needed. She was also anemic once again.
The only course
was another blood transfusion. This time, along with her blood transfusion,
she also received Epogen, a drug that stimulates the formation of red
blood cells. Amazingly, this transformed Shego and
she bounced back to her former food-begging little self, with spring
in her hop and much love to give. Her foster mom says now all she
wants is love and attention and its a joy to see that in her again.
Currently, Shego is doing much better. Her white and red blood cell count is in the normal range, but her last platelet count was high, 888 (200-500 is the normal range) and her liver enzymes and proteins are also a bit elevated.
What caused Shegos bone marrow failure? More studies and research are needed to accurately pinpoint the reason. Although hundreds and hundreds of rabbits have benefited greatly by being treated for E. Cunniculi with Albenzadole, it may be possible this drug caused the bone marrow failure. This is only an educated guess, but it bears some study. As a cautionary note, if your rabbit is on a course of Fenbendazole, Oxibendazole or Albendazole, be sure to have blood work done before, during and after the treatment. Please click here and we will send you any updated information on these drugs.
As for Mom and bunny, Kim made a promise to Shego during her darkest hours that she plans to stand by. I told her that if she pulled through I would treat her like a princess, said Kim. Now I have to spend all my time treating her like one! A task she certainly welcomes now.
She also credits the unbelievable dedication, compassion and knowledge of Dr. Sari Kanfer, as well as her two resident blood donors, Lily and Mr. Bones.
Thank you, Dr. Kanfer, from Shego, Kim and all of us at Bunny Bunch. You helped another rabbit run, leap and live another day.
And thank you Kim for having the courage, patience and dedication it takes to be a awesome bunny mom.
We will keep you updated on Shegos progress and on any findings of the use of Albendazole & Fenbendazole.
You can help! To date, Shegos vet bills are well over $1700. Your donation, of any amount, will help the Bunny Bunch to continue the rescue and education work we do, and to help other Angel rabbits like Shego. To donate, please send a check marked Bunny Angel Shego to: The Bunny Bunch P.O. Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708. You may also click here to make a donation through Paypal. Indicate your donation is for Angel Bunny Shego. Thank you in advance for your support.
Please note: We hope to be posting more information on Albendazole and Fenbendazole soon.
Bunny Expo 2003 a Huge Success!
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for putting on such a good event.
We found homes for some of our furry friends, met lots of lovely bunny people and enjoyed games, goodies, bunny chat, shopping and food. A big thank you to Dr. Roxanne Batt for joining us and giving a presentation about rabbit illnesses. For those of you who could not make it, click here to see photos from the Expo. Make sure you put us on your calendar for 2004 (date to be announced soon)!
Lab Rabbits in Permanent Homes or Foster Care
Thanks to the help of National Anti-Vivisection Society we were able to rescue all of the lab rabbits mentioned in a previous article in our website news. These wonderful gentle giants are all now living in homes or foster homes.
| One of the lab rabbits in foster care | LB, in his permanent home. He loves his veggies, and is great with his litter box! |
A veterinarian contacted us to see if we could take in nine big white rabbits (she had a house rabbit and could not stand the thought of what might happen to the lab rabbits if she didnt do something to help them). The rabbits had been living in laboratory cages for the past two years. Apparently the lab had no use for them but had just kept them there. Lucky for the buns, a kind-hearted person took charge of the situation and got the lab to release the rabbits to us.
It took a little bit of doing, trying to fit nine more rabbits into our already full foster program. With the help of NAVS, by providing funding for the lab rabbits, we were able to provide foster areas just for these special buns.
One by one the rabbits came to Bunny Bunch headquarters. They were all very nervous at first. Rabbits are creatures of habit so changes can be hard for them. Each rabbit was set up in a large exercise pen. At first they were very timid and stayed in one spot, close to the ground. But as hours went by they all started to explore their new living arrangements. Slowly, they started to chin to mark their territory, then began jumping into their nice big litter box, munching on fresh hay. They started to settle in. Before we knew it, they had become very accustomed to their new foster home, enjoying all their toys and baskets to chew on, even running around kicking up their heals and doing binkies!
So far we have homes for all except four of these lovely rabbits. It is always amazing how when you think you just have no room, time, energy or money to do anymore, something or someone comes along to help.
Thank you NAVS!
Rabbit Hutch Donations Needed
Our Bunny Bunch LA chapter is requesting donations of rabbit hutches. There is a large group of outdoor rabbits that need to be caught and put into foster care. Right now, all of our our homes are full of foster house rabbits and getting them temporarily into outdoor hutches is the only chance these rabbits have until we can get them into indoor foster homes. Please contact Michelle at 310-713-2478 or email her at kellym@ucla.edu. Charitable receipts available upon request.
The Bunny Bunch on Animal Planet
We are happy to report that you will be able to see The Bunny Bunch on Animal Planet this fall. We have just finished filming two days worth of rabbits, rabbit living areas, rabbit toys (from www.bunnybunchboutique.com), rabbit bonding (although the TV version is a little different than actual bonding) and Bunny Bunch Headquarters.
The program is called Beverly Hills Vet, a new show coming out in the fall. This will be a great way for you to see what we do, see our rabbits and to meet Caroline Charland, the founder of The Bunny Bunch.
As you will see if you tune into the show, we are just packed with foster rabbits. These are just a portion of the rabbits we have! We are desperately looking for a building to house our foster rabbits, hold education events and have people come and meet our rabbits for adoption.
A Bunny Bunch Building Fund has been set up, so we are asking for donations to help us move into our future Bunny Bunch Building!
All the rabbits Bunny Bunch takes in are from high kill shelters. We receive calls every day from people wanting to give up rabbits or people that have found rabbits that they cannot keep. Currently we are full but want to be able to help more. So we badly need this building. You can help us help the rabbits by sending donations to: The Bunny Bunch Building Fund, P.O. Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708. You will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation. You may also make a donation through Paypal by clicking here. Just specify you would like your donation to go to the Bunch Bunch Building Fund.
We hate to keep asking for things, but we feel that this is truly needed and will help the lives of thousands of rabbits.
Generous Donation Given to The Bunny Bunch to Rescue a Rabbit with Her Newborn Babies from High Kill Shelter
Dolly was rescued from a high kill shelter with her newborn babies and is now living happily in a foster home. You will be able to see Dolly and her babies under Adopt A Rabbit once the babies are old enough.
Because of the kindness and concern of Tania and her generous donation, made in the name of Michael Chandler, six rabbits will now have a happy life that otherwise did not stand a chance.
Michael Chandler
is a musician in the Los Angeles area. His next performance is on August
28th at 8:30pm at the Riverbottom, 4102 Olive, Burbank, CA. (Across from
the WB building). His website will be up soon showing dates of future
performances, at www.michaelchandler.net.
Thank you Tania for your generous support and kind heart.
Desperately Seeking Foster/Permanent Homes
We
are desperately seeking foster homes for 5 young rabbits whose mom,
Cara, was adopted from a high-kill shelter at the 11th hour. The new
adopter couldn't keep Cara and was going to return her back to the same
shelter within days of her original adoption. A good hearted foster
rescued her in the nick of time and was in the process of arranging for
Cara's spay when Cara unexpectedly gave birth to 5 babies! Due to
personal circumstances, the foster can no longer take care of the babies
who are now 3 months old. The good news is that she is keeping Cara to
bond with her boy bunny. These fun loving little girls/ guys are growing
up quickly and need a permanent or foster home ASAP. Click here
to view the photos and bios of Shadow, Taz, Winky, Mellow, & Doby
(pictured above). If you can help, please email Kim
or call the Bunny Bunch at 909-591-7200.
Six
gorgeous white male rabbits need rescuing from a lab in Southern California.
We have no foster homes available so we need your help finding people
adopt them. The rabbits are in great condition; they have not been used
for any kind of experiments and the staff there has been taking care of
them. The lab has agreed to let us have them, so we need to hurry up and
get them out. We will have them neutered. They are only about four years
old, very sweet and will make wonderful house rabbit companions. Time
is running short so please contact us soon! Email Caroline,
or call 909-591-7200.

Whats cuter than a pair of bonded rabbits?
Thirteen bonded rabbits!
We have thirteen bonded rabbits that we would like to place all together. Twelve spayed girls and one lucky neutered boy. These rabbits all vary in age, looks and personality. They like to crawl all over you and give lots of kisses; they enjoy being groomed and love to play. Currently they are in a foster home, but we need to free up space so we can rescue more rabbits. If you think you might be able to help us with a wonderful home for these lovely bonded buns call us at (909) 591-7200, or email Caroline.
Mandatory Spay/Neuter Programs in Los Angeles and Orange County
We are happy to announce that Los Angeles Animal Services and The Bunny Bunch are now working together to get a mandatory spay/neuter policy in place for all rabbits adopted from the City of Los Angeless six animal shelters.
A mandatory neuter policy will make a real difference in the population of unwanted rabbits in Los Angeles. The policy will also send a clear message to the public that rabbits must be neutered. Additionally, shelters will be more likely to keep rabbits longer and the adoption rate will go up if the rabbits are neutered upon entry to the shelter. We will no longer have baby bunnies born in our shelters. Adopters will no longer be saddled with surprise litters.
We are hoping to have this program in place shortly, and will be using this program as a model to set up similar programs for rabbits in shelters throughout the United States.
We are also working with Orange County Care Facility for Animals to get a mandatory spay/neuter program in place for the rabbits there.
If you are interested in setting up a mandatory spay/neuter program at a shelter near you, please contact us so we can help.
If you are a rabbit knowledgeable veterinarian interested in helping us with affordable spay/neuters for rabbits anywhere within the United States please let us know by contacting us .
We will keep you posted on our progress.
Planning to Adopt a Rabbit? Consider a Bonded Group!
Here at the Bunny Bunch, we always recommend that rabbits live in pairs, threesomes or groups. They should never live alone. Rabbits are very social, so being alone they will become sad, bored and lonely.
Here are some of our groups available for adoption.

Please let us know if you would like to find out more about adopting a group of rabbits, or a friend for your rabbit, by emailing Caroline or calling the Bunny Bunch at 909-591-7200. Thanks a Bunny Bunch!

Shelter Volunteers Needed at a Variety of Locations
If you can help by volunteering at any of the shelter locations listed below, it would make a tremendous difference in the lives of shelter rabbits. Even a few hours a week makes a big impact. Locations and contact information is listed below.
East Valley Shelter
We desperately needs rabbit volunteers at this shelter. We haven't gotten
any updates on the rabbits for a long time. The East Valley shelter is
located at 13131 Sherman Way in North Hollywood.
Please email Michelle if you or anyone you know can volunteer there, even if it means stopping by once a month or once a week to verify the sex, size and temperament of the rabbits. You may also reach Michelle at 310-473-8354.
North Central and South
Central Los Angeles Shelter
The bunnies at these shelters desperately need your help. Both these shelters
are Los Angeles City shelters where the staff is overwhelmed with the
constant influx of dogs and cats. The bunnies are not high on their list
and are often neglected. Volunteers duties range from making sure that
the bunnies have hay, pellets and water, to petting them and ensuring
that they are safe. Both these shelters have hay in stock but we need
volunteers to actually give them to the bunnies. Even if you have only
an hour to spare a month that would really help us; especially if you
are available during the weekdays. The shelters are open from 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
They are closed on Mondays. As volunteers, we can make a difference. I
truly believe that we can help the LA shelters modify their ways and rabbits
can be saved. I've already seen some changes since I started volunteering
at these two shelters over a year ago. If you are interested, please contact
Viji at viji@pacbell.net if you
would like to help or if you want more information.
Santa Monica Shelter
Santa Monica shelter needs volunteers-- they generally do NOT put down bunnies, and the environment is pretty pleasant. If you are interested, please email Carla.
West Los Angeles shelter
A volunteer is needed at this shelter on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This
shelter is a low-kill shelter, where we concentrate on education and making
sure potential adopters are aware of the responsibilities of rabbit ownership
and that they adopt a rabbit or rabbits appropriate to their needs. It's
important that we cover that shelter 100% of the time--we get enough traffic
to occasionally refer people to other shelters and save rabbits there
as well. For more information, please email Michelle
or call her at 310-473-8354.
We also need volunteers at the Carson Shelter. You may email Michelle or call her at 310-473-8354.
Being a shelter volunteer makes a tremendous difference! It helps educate shelter staff about rabbits and helps save rabbits lives. We hope you can help. For other shelter locations that need help or if you have any questions, please email Kim.
